You Were Meant for Me by Jewel 07 Dec 2023
Posted by Loraine on December 7, 2023 at 7:23 pmStill working on speed, but I’m happy with it so far. Messed up one of the harmonics, but I was just happy the 5th fret rang out.

@Loraine, this reply is a little late because I back slid yet again and haven’t logged into TAC for awhile. We used to be at about the same level in skill so I have followed your progress closely feeling a kindred spirit. However, you have left me behind and now you are an inspiration to work towards. Your chords transitions are so smooth now and strumming seems so automatic so that singing does not disrupt your rhythm. Your voice has progressed as well. I’m really impressed since last I listened to you. Great job and kudos for persistently working toward your goal. I will use you as a model to keep going. Thank you.

@SherryH I truly appreciate the kind words and your critique and for noticing improvement in my playing. I put a lot of effort into it this past year. It was really wierd – last year I was going to meetup with a few other guitar geeks down in Florida for a 3 day jam. There was a list of songs submitted that others thought would be good songs to jame with or learn. I didn’t know how to play any of the songs, and they were above my play level, or so I thought. I immersed myself in only practicing those songs for a few weeks, and I was able to somewhat play during the jams.
The most miraculous thing happened though. All of a sudden, I was able to pick up songs rather quickly, and chord transitions became much smoother, my chord library grew, almost effortlessly, and I was able to put vocals to songs rather easily. I don’t know what made the difference, but I haven’t stopped since. I pick up a few new songs in a typical week, and I add the, to my growing arsenal of songs, and ai practice them over and over. As for vocals, I took a few vocal lessons and found I have a wide range of octaves and notes. I just had to relearn to use my vocal chords that had become atrophied over the last several years of being a virtual lock-in with my mother who had dementia and not really getting out and exercising my vocal chords through social interaction. I never even knew that was a possibility. I know my voice had become very monotone and low over the years. Now I know why.
Long story short, don’t sell yourself short before the miracle happens.
