Zoom settings for open mic
Posted by BarbaraM on May 9, 2024 at 2:42 pmI just watched the open mic session this afternoon and there were several mentions about setting your Zoom program to allow your guitar to be heard. I downloaded the instruction PDF. But I must have the older and/or free Zoom program because nowhere do I even have that. Is there an updated free Zoom that will still work on Windows 7?

The most recent release of Zoom is 5.17.11 and is the last version that will work with Windows 7. So you should be able to update and have all the latest features. Start Zoom, login, then click on your icon in the upper right. From the menu select “Check for Updates” and it will take you to a dialog where you can download and install the latest version.
That being said, you would also benefit greatly by upgrading from Windows 7. It is coming up on 15 years old and was declared end of life 4 years ago.

OK, I just updated Zoom, and it said I already had 5.17.2, and could upgrade me to the latest version which is 5.17.21. I’m just wondering if the free version is different, but I thought it all was free.

It appears I have two versions of Zoom. The one I just updated does have the musician thing, but I had to hunt for it.

I open Zoom, but the opportunity to change settings per Tony and Maggie does not show up anywhere. Tried all kinds of tricks to find it. Can you expand on how you found it?
Thanks

ChuckS, If I recall, when I opened Zoom from my desktop icon there were two icons. One was a blue square with a white movie camera in it. I think that’s the older version. The other icon is a blue square with the words Zoom in white. I opened that one. In the top right corner is a little gear icon for settings. It was in there, a couple of layers in.
Hope this helps!

You might be able to afford a used computer, @BarbaraM . Go to NewEgg.com and buy a refurbished business computer. For about $300 you should be able to get a very capable computer that runs windows 10.
In fact, you can also buy refurbished computers on Amazon.
