  1. My problem with most barre chords is reach because of small hands. It gets a bit better up the fret board and probably would work better using a capo and playing further up the frets. I will give that a try to see how it goes.

  2. I believe it’s physically impossible for my hands to perform this exercise without much contortionism going on. Ugh! So, in all honesty I’ve had a ‘few’ (lost count’) tendon surgeries on both of my hands and it’s truly impossible for me to do this so I need ‘work-arounds’….just sayin’

  3. Good exercise, Tony these exercises are just what I need to further my skills. When I first started trying to nail down barre chords i was so frustrated. My teacher at the time suggested lighter strings. That and the neck of my Martin acoustic/electric being narrower than my Takamine acoustic made a big difference. I still have problems with the unevenness of my index finger at the knuckles; forming gaps. Learning how to Increase the pressure on the tip of my index is helping. But I still miss the better sound from G and B strings at times.
Also once I started to hit the notes, I remembered to RELAX…. It all sounded better!!

  4. What demon came up with barre chords? I am having a lot of trouble with this exercise, especially the G, B, and high E.

  5. Always have a heck of a time with the B string. Wonder if it’s the shape of my “elderly” index finger. Will keep working it, but……

    1. Kev, taken me tears but I can finally get it with pain…I use the cheatin F …at times – it works///google search it..Justin has it

  6. I’m glad this lesson came around again and again. Even though, I still struggle with the B string! LOL! The over all shapes are getting better! This really helps especially when using any barre while alternating pic style or finger picking.

  7. Did it! I love barre chords. Have a little arthritis in my fretting hand, so it does cause some trouble if I am continually pressing down in the same place.

  8. This went better than I thought it would. Had a little trouble with the b string but only once and awhile. My biggest trouble with bar chords is transitioning to them in a song.

  9. This a great exercise, to perfect my barre skills, yesterday my the pressure points on my index finger left my finger very sore in spots. I guess I need to work on callus building on the side of my finger, not just the tips.

  10. I have had some barre chord training in the past but never to the degree of granularity that Tony presents in the lesson. I never realized the degree of focus it takes on the index finger to make a clear barre chord. Also, while playing i could never make them fast enough to consider trying to play them. Can’t wait to see the progress that i am going to make. Really appreciate the instruction. I did have some occasional muting on the b string and on the Low E. Need to practice on applying the right pressure with the index finger and build strength. Large win tonight with the technique.
