Yes my pinky definitely needs assistance. On my guitar the 14th fret is too far into the body and the ring finger reaches it better. Not comfortable with vibrato now so will add that to my warmups. Groovin’ in PA!

Hey from Collins,Ms.

Glad you’re here @Billyd1921 I’m in Brandon, MS, about 65 miles away from you. Let me know if you ever head this way.

Welcome to the newbies! I am located around the Cincinnati, Ohio area. I’ve been here since December and enjoying every moment of it. Don’t forget to check out the forums – they can be very helpful and also help keep you engaged.
Also… I like a little bit a wiggling going on … lol -
477 sessions from beautiful Concord NH

I haven’t been able to get two days in a row, so my streak record is pitiful! I’m glad i have this cheapo little travel guitar from Walmart! At least I can listen, fret and balance it on my knee whilst my right arm remains in the sling! its going to be a long 6-8 weeks recovery but doing something meaningful will keep me from loosing it! i can sing and pretend to play my guitar!
-
I am also recovering from a rotator cuff surgery and getting my groove back. Some days were better than others but we can both follow RLD’s example and keep on rocking until all is well again.

@david-holly474gmail-com I hope you’re enjoying TAC. I’m in Brandon, MS, Castlewoods. I’ve been here for a couple years now and it’s a great motivater.
-
-
A thin week for me: too much vibrato and not enough of anything else. I can do one vibrato technique pretty well, and it is all I need. I’ll find some other things to review.
-
Good day, TAC family! I’m playing in West Sacramento California (please don’t hate me!). This is a great group to be part of!
-
Are people turning their hand up or down for this vibrato. Tony is turning down so the string is bending towards the floor, and this indeed will make the string fall off the fretboard when playing vibrato on the high E string. But why cant you instead turn up? so the string is bending up toward your face not down towards the floor? This way you can use it on all strings except the low E string, which you wont use often in a solo anyway?
-
‘Sup, from Boise, Idaho!
My index finger struggles with this, but my middle and ring fingers are bosses at the vibrato game.
-
I agree!!! (and forget the pinky!)

Hello from Wilkes – Barre Pa. And welcome to a terrific site to learn guitar!
-
Hello all fellow TACers. Im here from Mechanicsburg, PA and have been a TAC member for about three years. Anyone from the central PA area please reach out. I would love to have someone to jam with.
-
Howdy from Spotsylvania County and Fredericksburg, Virginia. The weather here is absolutely beautiful today but I’m inside plunking away on my Martin X series (“Naomi”) and Taylor GS Mini (“Hannah”). Hey, if BB can name his guitar “Lucille” I figure I can name mine too. I have another one which is a Recording King 6 String RPS-7-TS Dirty 30’s Series 7 that I named “Abigail”. This exercise was not too hard but I don’t know if I got the technique or not. Time will tell.
-
@-Rick- hi from an adopted WV’er. My wife and I met at Concord College in Athens, WV. She grew up on a dairy farm outside of Union, WV. Sadly, I lost her four years ago after her 30 year battle with MS. Her family adopted me as one of their own and we get together every year on Labor Day weekend. Rock on dude.
-
I did okay with this Bravado.
I’m playing from Barrington Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Welcome everyone. -
I tried, but I can’t get much if any vibrato out of this form for some reason. I think it may be the edge of the neck presses on a nerve in my knuckle, and/or I can’t wiggle my hand quickly enough to do more than push the string back and forth. There are a lot of things I can’t do when quick movements are required. The exercise we did yesterday was much easier to do.
-
Hey TACers, im here from Sisters Oregon. one month in on TAC after a 45 year stall in playing.
-
Welcome from Reno Nevada.

Coming to you from Curtis, Mi in the Beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. My Alma Mater (NMU) hired a new President two years ago, which I think he came from MSU. Now you have “stole” him back as your President. He is a wonderful man and was a great President. Our loss is your gain Tony. Working on Fretboard Wizard along with the daily challenges.

Hello all new TAC family members!
I’m from Midlothian TX. -
Rancho Cordova California here. This is a good workout for toughening up that pinkie too. Starting to warm up here, gonna hit the low 80’s this week. Hope everyone is enjoying the milder weather. Got some gardening to do later today.
Everyone enjoy your day!
And, welcome new Tac Fam members. You’re in for a real treat here. smile, have fun! You’re gonna love it!-
Hello neighbor! I’m in West Sac!

Hello everyone, I’m one of the new students here. I live in Boynton Beach Florida. Been playing electric guitar for a while mostly blues and classic rock but rarely played my acoustic guitar. So, I joined Tonys challenge to rectify that. I have never been able to perform his type of vibrato very well at all. It seems while I can shake my hand quickly with my hand straight out as soon as I bend my wrist I can only shake it very slowly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
-
Hey RC, fellow Floridian here from Orlando region, soon to be Jax (moving in June). I’m like you, this “leveraged” thang doesn’t seem to work for me. I am handy guy and loved Physics class in my school days, so totally understand the concept of a lever and how you can tear heads off of bolts if you put a pipe on the end of a wrench. I get the best results if I just kind’a shake my hand freely without any pivot point. I’m not finding I need leverage to move the string.
-
I’m in Madeira Beach, FL here! I am not a fan of this specific vibrato technique, but it’s always good to have multiple options for those that can do it!
-

Thanks Tony,
Good lessons this week and last week too. Greetings from an old MSU student. I see Bozeman has grown a lot over the years. i’m from upstate New York.-

-
Good morning gang. from a little town called Willis ,Michigan. The Vibrato lessons are going pretty good for me .have a great day everyone .
-
Well this week is much easier than last week. Thankfully I already do vibrato on the violin. This technique is a little different than that, but I find my way to be just as effective. I’ll keep practicing both ways.
-
Oh, and I’m playing in South Central PA.
-
-
Here in Attleboro, MA. I actually find this one deceptively tricky but I’m starting to get it.
