Today you will learn a chord progression that will help you as a rhythm guitarist. These chord progressions feature common chords in a given key, and will expose you to some new and fun rhythmic ways to play through them. You will gain some stellar rhythm techniques, as well as expand your chord knowledge on Thursdays.

I’ve had a couple of “a-ha” moments going through these sessions. First, when practicing the D-major scale going up the neck, I realized I could apply the same 2nd-string harmonies to the first string notes that I’ve been practicing in the key of G on the ‘ukulele like the way Troy Fernandez does quite often in his playing.
Later when practicing this chord progression I recognized the shapes on the 1st and 2nd strings were the exact same shapes as the D, Em, Fm and G shapes you use in this lesson. It also made me realize that the root note is really on the 2nd string and the harmony on the 1st string, which will help me know what chords to play them over.
