I had a few of those experiences and have to say it is a joy when it clicks. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

That’s a hard one for me. It’s difficult for me to make barre chords that far up the fretboard.
I saw a player who switches knees back and forth and I think that helps him get a good grip on the strings.
Congrats to you!

Good one…maybe squeeze your guitar in and see if you can use them as a metronome just like Fahey did!

Tonight I found the notes for “Afternoon Delight” … a hit during the bicentennial summer of ’76.
Written by the same folks who wrote Country Roads.

Today’s song … Father and Son by Cat Stevens..never realized that the fathers part and the son’s response are pretty much identical melodies…I always thought they would be different.

Today I tried to sound out Beach Boys’ Cal Girls.
Had a hard time with it which makes me realize how what seems like a simple tune kind of gets complex with what I think are key changes.
!/2 a small win for getting half the tune down!

Haha…you would noy be that impressed if you actually heard them!
Have a great weekend and thanks for the encouragement.

Hi Moonhare.. I kind of just do them quickly and they are just the melody lines with the how of developing my ear. My goal is to do one a day thru Nov. and post them weekly to hold myself accountable.(I’ve been doing this for 6 months).
After that my goal is to embellish the songs by figuring out how to embellish them by adding arpeggios and chords yet keep the melody going instrumentally ( since I am a lousy singer.) I will probably seek in person lessons for that.
I am the opposite of a perfectionist so I would be a bit embarrassed to post them…HOWEVER…one thought I had that would perhaps be cool is to post a song and get the community to help figure out how to incorporate the embellishments and improvements.

Haha…you got that right.
Thanks!

Thanks Loraine…you seem to know a thing or 2 about this. Not in pain and playing the guitar gently actually feels good. Thanks for the advice. I will take it!

It was a great relief to see I could play. Thank you for your fine words of encouragement.

Hi Ted
I have been doing this for I think about 8 months before each lesson and it is coming much easier and faster now. I figure by the end of the year I will really get it…but then the next hard part comes…integrating the single notes with chords to be able to play a tune that sounds good instrumentally…It’s going to be a long journey!

Thanks Loraine- appreciate the encouragement.
