@Loraine , and @HowardM downloaded it from the app store on my IPhone. It really is a nicer tuner. I downloaded when I first bought my guitar. It will pick up your voice. Kind of handy too, because it’s on your phone. Called insTuner Free – Chromatic tuner. Tell me if it works for you.

@Mrfredsporty , I think it starts out where you have to figure some thing out in your head. Then once your fingers remember it, you don’t have to think so hard about how to play a song (or challenge).

@Mrfredsporty , you do practice early. I don’t even want to talk to anyone in the morning much less sing. la la la laaaaa

@Loraine , I started writing the melody down. I’m attaching an example of what I did with Dream A Little Dream Of Me. As I go through the song, i’m trying to hold my voice to what ever note I figured out should be there (does that make sense?). I still don’t sound like Mama Cass, but my voice has somewhat of an idea where it’s supposed to go. It’s just an idea.

@Loraine , I am going to be there. I’m still a little shy about recording (i have a couple of songs on TAC, but not lately). I have my book of music that I’ll be taking out with me. Also I have 8 songs to memory. ok…. #8 Moonshadow is still a little rusty. I HAVE A ‘play on the porch day’ SHIRT!!! I am ready!! Hopefully my husband isn’t home so he won’t see me make a fool of myself. ha ha ha.

@the-old-coach , what a minute, you started here with no musical education, right? And you already are putting in as much time as you are. Your doing great. My best advise is to have a guitar where it’s easy to get to. I always have one in the family room. Making a place for one in the living room and of course one in my den. Sometimes just to have it close to easily pick it up and figure out a jingle or play the improv lick from Tuesday. You got this. By the way, there isn’t an easy road. It’s all hard work. 🙂

You know @the-old-coach . I was doing the 2 hour practice thing myself for a while. It was just too much for me. I do have 7 songs memorized, I play those sometime during the day (that’s about 21 minutes) at my leisure when I feel like it. If I don’t play them every day (or close to everyday) I’ll start forgetting them. I do the 10 minute daily challenge. I have a list of 8 songs that I’d like to learn to play better and they aren’t memorized (maybe ½ hour playing time). I get to them here and there, these I don’t get everyday, even thou I try. I am going to guess adding this up I’m at 45 to 60 minutes a day for sure, the rest is gravy if I get to it. I would say take some time to memorize some songs so when you are at the camp fire with the marshmallows roasting and someone hands you a guitar and says something like. Hey! I heard you can play. Grab that baby and start strumming and singing to your heart content. If you can throw in a couple songs you made up yourself, that would just be icing on the cake.

@campfire , Good job on getting a metronome. I bought one last month. It surprising when you use it with a song and your tempo on the song is way off base. ha ha ha. Good Luck with it. I haven’t used it with the daily challenges. I’ll have to try it next time.

@Loraine, It should get you close. I’m not of perfect pitch. So if I’m close to C, I will call it a C. It took me a little while to figure it out. The 1st note on my ‘Dream a little dream of me” is on the 2nd string, 3rd fret, which is a C. Play that note on your guitar and see if it comes up on the tuner (doesn’t have to be exact). If it does, make that same pitch with your voice and it should come up on the ‘instuner’. practice till you can get it to match (somewhat). THEN…. do it the other way around. Make the pitch with your voice (ahhhhhh) when the tuner picks it up and gives you a note (C), find the matching C on your guitar. Does that work?

@Loraine I did a lot by ear, but when I got super stuck I would turn on my guitar string tuner (insTuner app) and sing the pitch with my voice. example being, “LAAAAAA” and watch on my tuner for where it landed. Ha ha ha ha…. It helped me out a lot. Per my image, pitch was E so now I just had to find the note on the string that sounded the best (really? Is sounded a word?),

@ChuckS , you don’t have to stay outside all day. ha ha ha…. a busy street. playing outside on the porch for you, is much more than a small win. That would be high anxiety for me (i’m getting better). If I record, i’ll post it.

@MikeGaurnier I started doing the same thing. I log onto TAC first thing and make sure my time is tallied in. I have been here 459 days and have come so close to 100! I am making it this time. Sometime in September. Good for you to get to 109, good job.
