Well, @Terry B it just happened to me. Type out a long message to have it flash pink and not load? hmmmmm…….. Just a hic-up in the system.

No, @mkjohnsons you’re not slipping! I’m with you. I want to have at least 10 songs that I can play without a music sheet in front of me. I am at 6 right now. I might muddle through them, lot of hesitating, but I do it. Take a song that isn’t way to hard and play a much as you can. If you make a mistake, start over (I have spent hours on this stuff and then have to repeat if the next day). I walk the line by Johnny Cash is a good one to practice to (download it from ultimate-guitar). If you get one verse down you’ll get them all, because it’s nothing but chord progression changes per verse. By the way have you taken the fretboard wizard course? It will help. Tony talks about a thing called Music Theory and how songs use chord progressions to make the song (i think I said that right). Here is something that @Brian2501 mentioned in a ‘small wins’ post of sounding out the melody of a song. I started doing it myself. I’m incorporating it into my ‘Jamming songs’ course study. If I’m saying any of this wrong, or someone has an easier way to say it, please jump in. In no time you’ll be making up jingles off of TV commercials.

Thanks @Loraine , I have started doing this myself. I like getting a notification from someone who is answering one of my posts or a comment that I have made. Thanks again.

@Brian2501 I think this is an awesome idea. Also puts a little fun into your guitar journey.

@Duane58 , I never thought of such a thing. I looked up the apps you listed and ‘Train your ear’ and the ‘Ear Master’ had the most information. They both looked interesting. I would be lost reading music thou, I have gotten myself so used to using the tabs. I just went on my IPhone and there are quite a few apps for ear training. I think I’ll download one and then give my thoughts. As of right now, it sounds pretty dang cool and thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Good for you @Brian2501 for taking the Daily Challenge a step forward. I think this added to your routine is going to really help you get further in your guitar journey.

If I know I’m making a longer post i’ll write it in Word. Then copy / paste. I don’t know why that is happening. Did you happen to get the flashing pink screen of death? or maybe I’ve been black-listed. 🙂

@Brian2501 ,I took your idea and applied it to the ‘jamming songs’ course. After getting the strum down, I backtracked and figured out the melody or the little riff Tony tosses in. Thanks for the idea. It’s now part of my routine. 😉

@Warren C , I agree with these tips all the way. You’ll be surprised how much just changing your strings to nylon or to thin strings will make a world of difference on those fingers.

Thanks Duane58 , When you start going shopping try out as many guitars as you can. I went on-line a lot and googled guitars good for finger pickers. googled guitars for light strummer. Googled that were all wood. Watch the ‘all wood’ thing if that is important to you. I found the site had to say ‘solid wood’ to not be a laminate. Then make a list of which ones could be a candidate for a new guitar for you.

I wouldn’t have been able to purchase the Taylor 816ce if I didn’t use the Martin D28 as a trade. It would have been too much money for me to justify. I rarely used the Martin because it was a bear to play. I really like the Taylor. It was a good trade for me, even thou, I did lose money on the Martin. I now have a guitar that fits me. It a good life 🙂

I have made a list of songs that I want to play without sheet music. I want a few strummed songs in the mix. Right now I’m working on Johnny Cash’s I walk the line. A little strumming, a little picking. So far so good.

I had a hissy fit with the format change in March. I think that was a burr in my side too. There are a lot of nice changes with the update and a lot of courses that he has that I haven’t taken advantage of. One big change that I like is Tony is incorporating one of the challenges into his Acoustic Tuesday show. It really opened my eyes to….. Oh gee…. I see what he’s doing, i can do that.

If I use it, it will be money well spent. I think it’s a good fit for me, so I’ll use it. I just watched Tonys Acoustic Tuesday where he was talking about breaking in a guitar. I have heard that before and actually thought it was a bunch of bull, but he seems to think you should play as much as possible to break it in. I usually use my nylon string for practice, but I’ll start using the Taylor in it’s place. 🙂
