I pulled out my Martin D28. I figured it’s a big guitar and about the size the 12s come in. It’s a beast, I forgot how it was to play. Sounds great, but really tough on the fingers. Then I started thinking about …. What if there were 12 strings on this beast, EGAD!! So I am going to be shopping at some stores that carry 12s. Thanks Carol-3M-Stillhand, I have been watching a lot of videos on the Taylor 562 which is a Grand Concert size, but can’t find one to actually try out. I’m a finger-picker and that concerns me a little with buying a 12. Just happens a store about an hour from me has 8 in stock, some new, some used, some big, some small (well, smaller). So that will give me an idea if I should take the plunge or not. @Mark, I’m still laughing at your 12-string update. Thanks everyone for all the posts.

You don’t have to memorize but some are kind of cute that I will practice in front of the tv. It’s nice to be able to do it without having a song sheet in front of you. Also you could give it a go and add some extra notes onto it. All good practice.

Very happy to hear this news!!! Just to let you know, I picked up a inexpensive 1/2 size Cordoba Classical guitar ($160, but got it on sale for $65). It’s hanging on the wall in my guitar area. I don’t have to worry about it like I would my beast of a Martin (who is safely in it’s case). You don’t have to spend a lot of money on a guitar just to putz around with. Besides the nylon or thin strings are easy on your fingers. Good Luck, and again happy to hear you guitar is coming back.

I save all the daily challenges. rename them to ‘date – name of lesson – what the lesson is” . Lessions are ====> Monday is TECHNIQUE, Tuesday is GUITAR LICK, Wednesday is IMPROVISATION, Thursday is RHYTHM GUITAR and Friday is CHORD PROGRESSION. Keep them stored in a folder on your computer then it’s easy to do a search for what ever lesson you want to focus on. I also save the ‘backing track’ on Wednesday. Good luck. This helps me and like @Mark said the lessons go away at the end of the month.

Good Luck to you DanielC. I agree with @Loraine , there are a lot of sites that will help you learn songs. Just keep true to a routine. I have upped my playing time to 2 hours a day. I have only missed my goal a couple of times this month (but the holidays made it hard!!) I want to learn 10 songs without music by last Saturday of August. Good luck to you, you can do it.

Yes, I did have this happen to a guitar I had years ago. The guitar store was able to fix it somewhat, but it was still bowed enough that it was hard on the fingers. Yes, I agree with That_Guy about the D-darrio packs (I have read a lot of good reviews on them). Also the digital Humidity monitor, I just bought one myself and found my poor guitars are living in 29% humidity (we are living in a Michigan winter right now). Today I’m ordering the D-darrio packs and I’m thinking of a room humidifier. I would still try to heal the Martin by hydrating it in it’s case. Google, do some research and good luck.

Not a stupid question, not at all. I was wondering the same thing.

No, there isn’t any. At one time there used to be a section where you could learn a complete song. It was taken off the site and is now public access. Use either http://tacsongs.com/ or https://app.searchie.io/hub/254V7grV3m/. Both links go to the same place just different ways to get there. There are 2 icons, one for fingerpicking the other flatpicking. There are a number of songs from starter to a more advanced student.
To get to the tabs click on the yellow arrow icon. Then you’ll be able to get the tabs from the attachments. If you have any issues just reply back to me.

Sometimes @MikeGaurnier it’s worth staying up all night (if need be) to work something out. Glad you got this!

WOW, thanks. I was just on the Guild site and what a nice collection of 12 strings. The Eastman like you said, affordable and solid wood. I am only planning on Solid wood at this point. I’m not in a hurry so I can shop around for a 12.

I am also looking at 12 strings. I’m most interested in finger style and I was wondering how that would be with a 12. I haven’t purchased one yet, still investigating but i think i am going to start looking at stores that have a few 12s in stock to play before that big purchase. Thanks for you input.

I really think it was a mistake to take them off.

Tuned it up last night and the bridge still holds. It’s a fun little guitar to set on a stand. No one is afraid to pick it up to play a lick. We are having my sis-in-law & bro-in-law over for the holidays, both own guitars and never learned how to play. I’ve been trying to get them re-interested. They are in the “oh, it’s too hard” stage of their life. I guess they thought if they bought a guitar they would magically know how to play it. ha ha ha.

Guitar is glued together looks good @MikeGaurnier . I have the strings on, but haven’t tightened them up yet to tune it (i’m afraid). My brother told me the guitar (First Act) is about 18 years old. Not a bad life span for a $20 kids guitar. Thanks for asking.
