I place the barre first or at the same time as the other fingers for the common chord shapes

I found a local guitar jam group on Meetup and have been attending it for the past year. We are playing together, it is basically guitar karaoke, but it has definitely made me less anxious about playing in front of others. I do still have the issue that when I’m recording myself I can’t play a note. Very strange.
Perhaps seek out some other guitar players to p,ay with and see if that helps.

I’m not an expert but here is how is was explained to me.
You can use any of the 5 shapes (C A G E D) to play any major chord. Each shape has a root note defined on a single string. The E shape is on E string, string 6; The G shape root is also on the 6th string; the A shape is on A string, string 5; etc. By sliding that shape up and down the string you can play all 12 notes with that one shape.
That being said 90% of the time you will use either the E shape or A shape. I believe the reason for this is because the other shapes are finger twisters and more difficult to play. We are at the limit of my knowledge here so there may be uses for the other shapes.
As to why we would switch between the E and A shapes when we could play every chord with just one of them, there are 2 main reasons. One is to keep your hand in smaller area of the fret board instead of sliding up and down 12 frets. The other is to stay in the same octave range or rather have similar voicings.
Take all of the above with a grain of salt. I could be completely wrong. 🙂

The web site is overall very static and doesn’t get updated often. Changing photos is very time consuming process and most web sites I visit have had the same images for years. (my web sites included).

Looking at the phot my comment would be that your bar finger should be straighter parallel with the fret. Rotate it towards the neck so you are on the side of the finger.and just keep practicing.
If you have access to an electric guitar it is much, much easier to barre on an electric than an acoustic. Helps to get the technique ingrained

Basically the idea is you go through the 30 day challenge and then jump into the daily challenges. The daily challenges are week long stand alone exercises. Each day of the week you spend at least 10 mins on each challenge and then wait for the next day. Some daily challenges will be easy, some you will only get through one measure. That’s ok. The challenges come around again in several months and the next time you will get further.
The motto is progress over perfection. You don’t need to perfect any challenge, instead spend at least 10 mins on it and then move on.

Different thicknesses do sound different and many select their pick based upon the sound they want to achieve.
I tend to use a thinner pick for strumming and a thicker pick when picking individual strings.
Some are also more comfortable to hold, don’t spun as much, or don’t slip out if your fingers. Get an assortment pack and try lots of different sizes and styles to see what works best for you.

The mantra is progress over perfection.
You are expected to be proficient in any daily lesson the first time through. Some will be easy, some I’ve struggled getting through a single measure. Just spend the 10 mins and move on. The lesson will come back around in 9-12 months and the next time you will do better, over time you will be able to do the whole lesson without a struggle. Have patience and don’t strive for perfection.

Reading your post I realized I rarely if ever read the comments under the daily challenges. I recall them being just people saying how easy or difficult they found the challenge. Hearing you say they get quite lively is intriguing. I may have to start reading them.

Building community is hard. My other online guitar course has a much more vibrant community. I’ve been involved in community building for many years and it is very hard to make it happen, it seems like it just has to grow organically. Posting here early and often will help. Keep at it and don’t get discouraged.
