I tried to learn many times on my own with super limited success to show. I found TAC 8ish years ago and have never looked back. Consistency is key, without a doubt, but as others pointed out there are other ways to find consistency. What keeps me here everyday is ease of use and confidence that what I do here on a daily basis continues to make me a better player. Best of all I do not spend one second even thinking about it…I just do it. Tony is my teacher. I paid big funds to have him as my teacher. Under his instruction I have become the player I wanted to be but never could on my own cherry picking instruction. Nothing but big bold G chords from me. I have learned not to try and fix what is not broken. I guess if I were not making progress I would look elsewhere for primary instruction. Have not hit that wall yet.

I think you are on to something most excellent. How do I know this? I want to play it with you.

Congrats. How stoked is your fire? I feel like you have been here longer than two years and I mean that in the best of ways.

Have you seen the guitar in person? I ask because the pic shown looks like someone is obscuring the serial number intentionally. There is a digit where the black square is…hopefully. The corresponding guitar with only 5 digits would be old and extremely rare and none of those had a black square in the serial number. Looks to me like someone trying to keep the number hidden.

@That_Guy : great thread. Glad you thought of it!

The single biggest time saver that potentially could have saved me years, is dealing with tension right away and directly. I played nearly three years before @Carol-3M-Stillhand introduced me to tension management. I estimate for every hour spent focusing on tension I save myself two in the learning process. If you want to get better faster manage your tension. x2

Stretching done correctly is one of the best tools I have to improve dexterity and precision. Stretching done incorrectly can cause injury as you noted. Two words changed my methods from harmful to beneficial: Silly Putty. Treat those guitar muscles (fingers, hands, wrists, forearms, shoulders and neck) as if they were silly putty. Slow stretch and it will stretch safely for miles. Fast stretch and it will snaP. It is a matter of stretching for release and not stretching to feel the stretch.

OSM Mark, @the-old-coach , so glad you are through the mandatory 4wd section of the course. Now you go off road when you want.

Loraine is right on. I want to point out that while the lessons build a thematic continuity with related skills (Tues lick could be used in Wed. improv. etc.) there is no start or finish middle or end. There is a great circular nature of how this is put together. You just begin where you do and keep going and going and as long as it is fun go more. You will eventually circle back but it will seem totally different so not to worry about variety.

It is learning how to play without physical or mental tension. It is the practice of using precision and accuracy in order to use the least amount of force possible to make the sound that you want. On the mental front (tougher for me) is quieting my mind and being present with each note played, not thinking about where I need to be with my fingers but where is the song going melodically. This all possible because of all the prep (everyday for 8 years and loving it…now) done in the Daily Challenges using the same method.

I totally get that. The best way I deal with it (now that I have perspective it is way easier) is to remember that the next lesson on the horizon always has the potential to be the new JailBreak. It is a tough concept to embrace but when it comes to the Daily Exercises I hit them and move on. Many of the licks just happen now when I play. Underneath it all there is a fundamental similarity. I tried to figure it out on my own and could not. It took me trusting in Tony as a teacher to get it.

I do have an exception. I will use the monday exercises all week to work on dexterity, flexibility and tension abatement.

Fine noodles and butter there without a doubt and what would the rest of SWR bring to make it alfredo. They are just Cream. OH!, on second thought Cream is pretty amazing.
