your stumming hand does keep moving just more slowly if you are playing the 1/4 note down strokes. Remember for every down stroke your hand must move up. Whether or not it grazes the strings on the up stroke is a matter of choice and practice.

How are your measuring skills? Check the relief on your strings. That is how far the bottom of your string is from the 12th fret. This is the easiest fastest thing to check to diagnose your issue. I like my strings a little high but most prefer low as it is easier in the beginning. 5/64ths of an inch is a common happy place.

There is probably both going on but no need to make your playing experience more difficult than it need be.

Should it be a technique problem continue on with the lessons. You will resolve the issue as you build strength and kinesthetic awareness. One of the tricks I benefited early on from was figuring out which strings my bar finger was actually covering. By doing this I could press harder when needed rather than pressing everything too hard which made me tired and sore.

Hi @Dheaton : you could go back of course. In reality there is no forward there is no back there is only building the relationship of notes and your oneness with your guitar. You will see this again and if you continue with the other lessons moving forward you will be amazed when this comes around again how you relate to it. The present is the key. It is what I pay for. It took me many years to figure that out. Hopefully I am saving you some frustration. Tony is a great teacher and he became the teacher I had always looked for when I started letting him guide my progress,…presently!

All that said: if you go onto my profile you will see that I have saved this lesson in my favorites and you can access it from there. Make sure to “heart”it/save it to your favorites and from there you can access it anytime. Do this by clicking the heart button. I have no patience. This was a challenge I had to overcome. I reverse engineered my lack of patience and realized that if I jettisoned my expectations I would land squarely in the middle of creativity and faster progress. Expectation is where fun goes to die. I was no longer going to be “as good as” or be able to play “x” by this date. I was free to learn and progress as fast as my body and mind could process what Tony was trying to teach, without my added self imposed restriction.

Have you had a chance to read the TAC Guide? It is full of useful ways to find stuff like the TABs. It took me a while to learn how the site worked. This guide cuts the learn time down.

Hi @the-old-coach . Hope your Christmas was filled with joy. I look for your post where/when ever they appear. I look for them in the matrix and occasionally I see one floating around but can never get close enough to grab it. Happy New Year Mark!
