Great Question @JeffM.22 , fortunately the answer for this one is easy to execute. Let your middle finger holding down the low E string fall down a bit so that it is muting the open A string and you will have the desired chord. Same with the finger you are using on the B string, let it softly contact the high E string so that it too is muted.

@DrBob , I am in MikeG’s camp. If I have only 10 minutes to do something on guitar I am going to do the daily lesson. That is my commitment, that is my minimum, that is my home base and my launch pad. Tuning sure but in real time what does that take?20 seconds or so but yes always tuning and heck I will tune sometimes as I am playing because a string goes flat. Especially when the week is working on bends (the usual culprit for flattening tone). In the end you get to decide what is allowable or what constitutes your playing time. It is easy to gauge if your practices are bearing fruit by how you are progressing. If you don’t see progress, time to change your practices or conversely if you are happy and seeing progress keep doing what you are doing until it stops working for you.
As for the 10,000 hours thing: not a fan of the concept. One size does not fit all. It only takes ten minutes to have a blast if you love playing guitar. If the concept keeps you engaged and keeps you motivated then embrace it. I found it stifling and limiting so I let that one go. 10000 hours, true or not, is a coincidental measurement. My love for the instrument, the sound it makes, the feel of it in my fingers, the way I can communicate with my guitar in hand, and the observation of progress….that’s what drives me.

Okay @Moonhare , since you opened the can I will offer the minority opinion. The flat pick is like a bicycle: when you find balance you are off to the races. No need for anything other than the sensitivity of you thumb and index finger. Slow down, manage your tension, play softly and find the balance…..be the pick. When you find the balance push your volume but do not give in to the darkside of tension. A couple of weeks ago we did a flat pick warm up (Even Crosspick WU17) and then a progression challenge (Squeal Like A Pig, yes a disturbing title), these are the keys to finding balance. Devote a few minutes everyday morning and night and soon you will know the balance of the now grounded and balanced flatpick. No magic pill here, just hours and hours of honest down-home fun. ⛏⛏⛏

Nice wins on all fronts @JanineK . Time for a van so you CAN play while you drive. I have thought about getting one for that reason. : )

Hi @Sigi , my favorite backing tracks are done by an artist named Sebastien Zunino. They are free on youtube. Search his name to find them. I send cash his way every so often because I am grateful for his composition and would like him to continue making more.

Happy 1st Taciversary @TmThorGOT . Pretty amazing how the time goes and as you have observed how your playing has changed in that time relative to all the years before. Wishing you focus and determination on you way to becoming the player you want to be.

I am with you. By the way, what day is it?

Hi @Geocraig , I highly encourage you to get cozy with a metronome. I have never heard anyone say “His timing is just too good” but I have heard “Gotta work on your timing.”
In the mean time, I think your question relates to how to get the video to play faster? When I view the lesson video and move my cursor to the bottom of the video it brings up a bar: on the right hand side there is a gear wheel and next to that it says 1x. When I click on 1x it lets me either slow down the video by .5 , .75 or speed it up in multiples up to 2.0 times faster. Lemme know if that is what you where looking for.

I did kinda go there. Apologies, I have been playing with the ascending 5th and descending fourth so the Fourth has been on my mind. May the Fourth be with you as well.
oh man, soooo outta control.😄

Just a little pin pick, there’ll be no more Ahhhh ahhh, but you may feel a little sick….
I’ll know your status if the next SWR song is about rainbows and leprechauns. BTW @Fletch , I love you just the way you are.

Hi Stillhand, @Carol-3M-Stillhand mostly wanted to say hey. You are right the second time it is a fifth but the big descending interval is a fourth. So you need a fifth before you can feel the fourth. hehe. Though after a fifth, some would say you can’t feel a thing…….
