I never played with a pick until I started TAC and had an awful time flat picking. I was very frustrated at first thinking I’ll never get this, but I stuck with it and slowed way down. I also practiced some of the Daily Challenge Day 1 flat picking exercises regularly. It took awhile but a gradually got better at it. I also enjoy it more now and use a pick it in songs I”m learning.

Way to go! Bar cords are definitely hard!

I would encourage you go ahead and play the song that has a cord or 2 that’s difficult for you. Don’t worry if you can’t play it perfect or you have to hesitate when transitioning to that cord. If you just play through the song, pretty soon the cord will start to sound better as your hand gets stronger and muscle memory kicks in. It’s more fun than just doing drills until you have the cord down. Plus you will learn a song you enjoy. Kim

Hi Val, I can relate! LOL. I hated using a pick and had always used my hand to strum or just fingerpicked. I also have a classical guitar and for a long time that was the only guitar I had. I learned some ragtime on it and mostly fingerpicked. When I started the TAC daily challenge, I was forced to use a pick. I really did not like the idea and thought about not doing the FLP exercises but ultimately decided to go along with it and try. Well, it was a struggle and frustration for quite a while. It still drives me crazy at times (constantly changing picks, dropping picks, picks sliding around in my hand when trying different strumming technics, and of course striking the wrong strings when flat picking) but I’m improving and I have begun to enjoy the challenge. I’ve even started to learn some song that have flatpicking in them along with the strumming. Got a long way to go but I can honestly say I’m glad I stuck it out. Hope this is an encouragement but whatever you decide like Loraine said it’s your journey and you have to enjoy the road.

    Hi Ping,

I’m not sure anyone mentioned this, but I think it help to learn a song with these cords. There are lots of songs you can play with just these 3 cords. (C,D, G) It makes it more fun practicing. Playing a song will also help with strumming, rhythm and timing.

    Hi Saskia,

I’m sure others will chime in with ideas, but I just go on YouTube and look up the song or artist I’m interested in and also type in acoustic lesson. You will find several online teachers that will teach that song. Sometimes they will supply the tabs for free but most of the time you will have to purchase them anywhere from $2-$6. You won’t always need the tabs depending on the song. I found about 4-5 teachers I like. If you’re starting out with guitar, I would recommend Song Notes by Dave Pots. He is very thorough and is great for beginners as well as those wanting something a little more advanced.

    Good Luck,

    Kim.

Hi Phil, I was wondering the same thing so I contacted support and this was their response: Thanks for reaching out! I’ll be happy to help. Tony mentioned on the recent live Guitar Party that currently Fretboard Wizard 2.0 is in the works. Once that has been completed and it’s ready for TAC Members to enroll, we’re going to be posting announcements for it. We anticipate that to be in a few months, but we do not have a date as yet.

I’m hoping it will be soon. I’ve been wanting to take that course for a year now.🙂
