I think TAC is really good for beginners to low-intermediates to build dexterity and understand more about how a guitar “works”. I’ve been here 3 years and the first two years were VERY helpful in helping me learn to play better. I’m choosing to not renew for a 4th year, as I think I can find better instruction for my current skill level elsewhere (and I have). This is just my personal experience and opinion; it may not be the same for others. I would probably have stuck around for many more years if TAC hadn’t adopted a “business only” philosophy. That is their right and I respect it. But the old forum was such a huge morale boost and a respite from the ugliness on the rest of the www. I probably would have stayed around if that was still available.
Thanks to everyone who helped make my guitar journey fun and enjoyable. I have nothing but respect for Tony and the TAC team and I’m glad this site is available for the thousands who will benefit from it.

Thank you @UrsAngel and @Loraine for your encouragement. Just to clarify, I had already been playing 6 string for about a year (after a 25 year layoff) when I started playing the bass. I’m glad I did. Playing bass improved my 6 string skills, and playing 6 string helped my bass skills. I still played 6 string at home 90% of the time once I started on bass.

Most of the notes I play are fretted, so I would rather have those in tune and have the open strings slightly flat (vs having the open strings in tune and fretted notes slightly sharp).

That was amazing, @Marisa. Not an easy song to play or sing either, and you did a fine job of both. Nice back yard, by the way.

Thanks for the post-game comments @Michelle-PSL . I really admire your persistence. Most of the time, we have to be willing to do a thing poorly in order to eventually do it well. All those “failed” takes were great practice and moved you in the direction of your guitar goals. Perfect is the enemy good, and good enough is good enough.

Congratulations. Keep up the good work.

@Michelle-PSL , using the muted strumming on the first verse, then regular strumming on verses 2+ really gave the song a cool extra layer. Congrats on 99.

That’s really cool @Marisa. I think if people realized how easy it is, everyone would change their own strings. Give me the right tools and a good YouTube video and I can fix anything LOL.

You guys are making some fine music. Thanks for posting.

Man, @Michelle-PSL you really nailed that one. Excellent timing, seemingly effortless chord transitions, and hitting the root notes perfectly. A+

One of my favorite sayings is, “If you want to be good at something, you have to be willing to be bad at it (suck) for a while.” You WILL master the D chord if you practice it regularly and frequently. After you master the D chord, you get to be bad at bar chords for a while LOL. There’s something called “divine discontent.” Being unhappy or dissatisfied with something in our lives motivates us to make it better. So in a way, it’s great to be frustrated!
