UPDATE:
So the second day, I notice that I can make a mistake or get started late and still jump forward to where Tony is in the video at the faster speeds. I’ve noticed this before, that I “really” know something when I can make mistakes and still keep up, or get back into it.

It doesn’t look like anyone has given you the shotgun yet @saskia . The shotgun is Ultimate Guitar Tabs ultimateguitartabs.com
So if you know what songs you like and would like to learn, just look them up on UG. If you don’t know or want more choices than you are familiar with, start listening to a channel, whether streaming or otherwise, and listen for songs you would like to play. Then go look them up on UG.
From there, you can get help, especially at first, by looking up your song on YouTube and including “guitar tutorial” in the search. Like “It’s a Wonderful World guitar tutorial”.
I hope this helps.

Hi @Timo67 , welcome to TAC. I think you have found the right place. In fact, the best place. Tony’s method is different than the typical “learn and master” certain skills. Here, we simply do our best with the Daily Challenge and mark it as a win that we spent 10 minutes. Then over time we make progress while we’re having fun the whole time.
I would suggest taking the Fretboard Wizard Course when it comes around. That will surely fill in your knowledge of the fretboard.

👍 That’s awesome. I’m happy for all of us who receive these benefits from TAC.

Yeah, I gotta agree with @jumpinjeff on this one @mkjohnsons , if you are playing it correctly and THEN screwing up, you are getting your mind involved. At first, your not sure what to do, so your fingers are on their own and doing fine. Then, “I got this”, except what that means is you are trying to take over control from you fingers when they already “had this”. It’s really important to close my eyes and listen so hard to my music that my brain is like turned off when I’m playing a song I already know. I don’t need my head “teaching” my fingers. I need my head out of the way of my fingers.

That’s right, @Butterfly . And you will reach the point that you can showcase your guitar skills. Everyone who follows Tony’s program and sticks it out for 3 or 4 years ends up reaching levels they didn’t think possible. You will too.

You are certainly not alone, @Moonhare . Since I first joined and shortly after that started being one of the ones who frequently encouraged others, this is one of the single most common issues when someone joins. It’s just not the way anyone else sets up their guitar instruction. We are encouraged all the time to “master” something before moving on. Who knew there were so many accomplished guitar instructors giving bad advice? Still are.

Thank you @stevieblues , I had set getting faster as an intention for my practice a long time ago. But I gave it up as it just seemed so far over my head it that it was counter productive. Now though, it seems like it’s time for me to work on speed. So I am working on this warm up this week. We’ll see where that takes me.

See, now that was a great and very encouraging comment @Moonhare . Sometimes the most powerful comment comes from the person who is not very far ahead of us. I love the part where you mentioned your transition from the 30 day course and a few skills courses to the Daily Challenge. I’m gonna have to remember what you said there so I can repeat it to other new members in the future.
So, you floundered until you started the Daily Challenge. Isn’t that the WHOLE POINT of Tony’s program? He gives us daily direction that we can use for a practice session each day that can help train our guitar skills and musical knowledge. That’s exactly what is unique with Tony’s program. Everyone tries to teach specific skills. But we flounder after the course if finished until we understand how to self direct daily practice. Even now, I couldn’t direct my daily practice and hit such a broad range of guitar skills each and every week. I am so glad I signed up for lifetime membership. I may never reach the point where I don’t benefit from doing Tony’s daily challenge.

Thanks again for your great advice. I don’t seem to ever get enough of hearing how you describe the process, @jumpinjeff .

Thank you @Loraine . I know you can’t play right now, but I’m sure you will get better. And when you do, you will be playing better than ever. I have experienced being better almost right away after an extended lay off. And thank you for your continued support of TAC members like myself.

I’m not sure I would have gotten these concepts… ever, had it not been for your persistence in pounding the ideas into my thick skull, @jumpinjeff , so I really should acknowledge you when I have a win like this, even if only in my own head. Thanks.

👍😊
You made my day Mark @mkjohnsons , literally. I was having a bad day, but for you to give me the feedback that I did help someone with my post is just uplifting and what I needed today. Thanks.
