Not as late as me! Really let the dailies slide this last vouple of weeks as I got carried away writing a couple of new tunes. Anyway enough about me 😎 just wanted to say how fluid and smooth this solo felt. You really nailed it and the way you were connecting the notes is sounding pretty accomplished in a way many of us still struggle with. Great post. 🤟😎🎸

There were some really lovely moments when you mirrored the backing but in harmony. But as ever very varied styles of playing and that syncopation just pulling the melody back off the straight beat, which brings a lot of character into it. I’ve been very lazy as far as Dailies this week. Fell down the drone strings rabbit hole and spent hours writing with that. Back to my proper routine next week! 🤟😎🎸

MemberFebruary 11, 2022 at 12:52 am in reply to: Dungeon of Despair solo, over backing trackHey there and welcome to the forum from a fellow Englishman! Really pleased to hear you play and get a video up even if you’re a little wary. I did the same when I joined TAC in April last year and have been posting regularly since. I do it so I can look back on earlier posts and witness my progression. I’m blown away with how far I’ve got from those early fumbling attempts.
That said I think you did a great job on this one. Your movement about the fretboard was superb, chord shapes locked in and timing was good too. And please do go to the next 90 day party in April if you can. You will get a chance to listen to Tony talking to TAC members and sharing insights and news but my favourite part is the breakout rooms in the middle where you meet 3 or 4 fellow TAC members randomly allocated, and just have a chance to chat. There is no pressure at all, just a good way to see where you’ve got to, set some new goals and meet some friendly folks. Have fun – Darren (Moonhare) 🤟😎🎸

Isn’t that just great when you realise that you have improved and didn’t realise it. A great win and fabulous lightbulb moment. I’m not sure whether you missed lunch though. I would call that a lose rather than a win. 🍔🍟☕

Sorry I’m late to the party but belated congratulations anyway. Great idea to post a tune and that was just a fantastic fun one to boot! Us noobies are following in big footsteps and I’m pleased to say after dipping my toes in the SCONES VOM last week to watch and learn, I’ve written something to play next week. Thank you for your inspirational playing. It makes me realise it’s all within grasp if you just play every day. Happy TACiversay. 🤟😎🎸

Just sounds so good with your vocal style. I’ve never come across Harry Chapin so every day is an education on TAC! Thanks for all the background. Really helps set the context for the song.

The stalwarts of TAC have already spoken so not much to add really. Tony really does try to instill in us the mantra that there is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ on where you should be. Your routine sounds awesome but you may decide to change it at some stage and that’s fine. I try the daily challenges in the week (get about 50% of them at at least .5 speed), dip into some skills and then I try to write a new tune each weekend putting into practice what I’ve learnt during the week. It’s just me and my guitar at weekends, no routine, no scales just playing for the fun of it which is the whole point of all the practice after all.
I’ve played on and off (more off than on) since my teens but never got past a few cowboy chords. I wasn’t even going nowhere fast – it was nowhere slow – until I joined TAC last April at age 55 and I just haven’t looked back. I am so pleased with my progress not only because of the official TAC lessons, but also the family of encouraging people here like @MikeGaurnier and @jumpinjeff who you’ve already heard from. I check in at the 90 Day Progress Parties to meet other TAC members face to face and also set goals and learn news from Tony. And (I can’t quite believe it) next week I will be playing my first live guitar to an audience at the SCONES Virtual Open Mic. Nervous? Hell yeah – but also really excited about it. You are right where you should be and I’m sure looking forward to hearing some of your playing at some stage. Keep on Rockin! 🤟😎🎸

MemberFebruary 11, 2022 at 1:16 am in reply to: “The Coming Storm” – Drone strings and double stopsThanks Bill. That key certainly sounds right as I was playing Am chord progressions with the capo transposing a full tone up. It would certainly benefit from a lead line so I’m glad you had some fun jamming along.
And stop taunting me with your light guage strings. I’m not in the mood! 🖕😎🎸

MemberFebruary 10, 2022 at 4:30 pm in reply to: “The Coming Storm” – Drone strings and double stopsThanks so much although you don’t know the problems I had getting this recorded. I was strumming so hard in the percussive bits that the pick kept either flying across the room or rotating between my fingers. I ended up having to blue-tac the pick to my thumb to get this version done! 😂

Hi there. I’ve put SCONES on the calendar for next week and whatever happens I will attempt a song this time.
-
That’s a great video @Cadgirl – must try out some of those transitions. I think a lot of the licks Tony teaches us can be used like this and I’m enjoying the sections on some of the latest Tuesday dailies where he puts them into context.

Been writing and rehearsing like mad since attending last week’s SCONES VOM where I just wanted to listen and get a feel for what it was all about. Definitely looking forward to getting one under my belt then I think it’ll be easier from that point on.

Thanks. I had to run through the blues skill course first but at least I can play it in one key now!
