I have literally just bought my first electric guitar (although I have my brother’s old broken one here), a beautiful tobacco sunburst PRS and your solo has inspired me to try recording with it.

Well done staying awake. No pain, no gain is what they say! 🤟😎🎸

That is a really interesting thought. There are obviously some people who have a natural aptitude towards certain skills, be that maths, languages or music. It probably comes easier to them but the ‘exceptional’ childhood musical prodigies are really just that; the exception. For the rest of us it is thousands of hours of training our fingers to do what we want them to do.
So I guess what prickled you was the thought that this person just assumed you had a gift which meant you had it easy in playing and they didn’t recognise the sheer hard work and persistence. Well I would definitely take that as a compliment. If your work has been so successful that someone has mistaken it for an almost otherworldly talent then WOW has the practice paid off. You will still have the genuine respect of the guitarists around you who know this ‘gift’ came from sheer work and determination, but that work has created a mystique among non musicians that you have a talent normal people cannot achieve. Your gift is persistence.
As an aside when I was a teen I actually learnt specific ‘easy’ but very fast riffs to sound better than I was on keyboards so I could get into bands until my actual skills caught up. I was faking ‘gifted’ and it worked too well as I got called in for a show I simply couldn’t play and had to back out rather ungracefully. Good life lesson! After that I recognised my limitations, put in the hours and have had a great musical life ever since. Enjoy the journey 🤟😎🎸

Now it really doesn’t matter here. I have heard from others that the official line was just to mark it complete if you had done your 10 minutes or more. I didn’t know this when I started and only ticked complete if I could get through it at 1x speed. So I have decided to carry on doing that because I can then see from the percentage complete each month what I achieved. No one is marking you down on this if you don’t do it “correctly” so you can use the system in the way that works well for you. If you want it as a record of the challenges you managed to get your time practicing then just tick complete once you’ve had a go. All our journeys are different but the tools are for us to use to our own benefit. Good luck Darren [Moonhare] 🤟😎🎸

MemberJanuary 19, 2022 at 12:26 am in reply to: Beginner question, jumping up string on higher frets of higher notes.Agree with @tailsawaggin that this is a process. Although it’s called the 30 day challenge this will roll along at your pace and some excercises will be more challenging and take longer to get. Some may seem impossible at first. Add to that the fingers being painful and Challenge really lives up to its name. But keep at it and one day you’ll realise it is working for you.
I started last April. In November, as part of my 90 day progress goals I redid the 30 Day Challenge and found I could play it all at the 2x speed. What a buzz because that was utterly impossible when I joined. Give it your best but don’t be afraid to move on and come back later. Good luck and welcome to TAC. 🤟😎🎸

It is really up to you how you delve into this. For my part I use the journal to set my 90 day goals and track my playing days so I can check on my progress in the lead up to the online 90 day progress partys. But I don’t use the weekly/daily tracker pages. There’s no right or wrong here. If it is useful to you then fill it out to help keep a daily track of your progress. I’m just using it as an overall prompt for where I want to be and keep me on course.

The speed challenge is my nemesis. But consitently trying does push you in the right direction all the time so congrats for sticking with it and starting to get somewhere. 🤟😎🎸

Can’t sign up for it at the moment and Tony said at the 90 day progress party that they are totally revising it based on TAC family feedback. So I’m hoping Fretboard Wizard 2.0 will be available in the summer. 🤟😎🎸

Now onto 50! Then you can buy yourself a guitar…. 🎸🎉

Well done. I think that some hit home and then you can really start to get some benefit. I still hit a road block on the speed challenge but give everything a try and worth videoing your efforts even if not posting them as it will show you how you are progressing.

No problem. I find it easier to learn from the videos on TAC because I’m hopeless at reading TAB so I’m sure there are others that learn better that way too. We all need to help each other out where we can. Good luck with your playing. Hope to see you on Play for Us! 🤟😎🎸
