  • I think the best cover artist of all time is Linda Ronstadt. She made a career of covers, only recording about a handful of originals but charting 38 US Billboard Hot 100 singles. Her interpretations of songs were peerless, one of the best voices of the 70’s and ever!

    Some notable songs

“You’re No Good” (which she co-wrote)

    “Blue Bayou”

    “Long Long Time”

    “That’ll Be the Day”

    “It’s So Easy”

    “Somewhere Out There”

“To Know Him Is to Love Him”

Excellent @Braden! We don’t have to revolutionize the song, this can start very slowly! I love that you mentioned the D chord! I love those modifications that we’ve been learning every three months in “Old Man”. I play around with this several times a week. As I do this I’m recognizing all sorts of songs in my head

There’s one acoustic song from the 70’s that I used to love when I was 13-14 and I know find myself playing the very captivating intro of this song simply by modifying the D!

I don’t think it’s possible to delete a post, you have to leave at least one character and save it.

Hey @PugDad it sounds like we have both been playing for about 2.5 years. I’m probably about a month shy of that, and started very consistent play in July of 2024. I’m still slowish on some chord transitions, but I’m getting better, I just go through them daily. Some of the songs I want to play require very fast transitions but there are many where you can get away with being slower. I make sure I play through one song for at least 5 minutes every day. I’m close now to being able to keep pace with a number of songs.

Braden mentioned the “hack” of just strumming even if you haven’t completed your transition. Tony has also mentioned the same thing in at least one of the daily challenges. I find this very difficult, my brain wants to halt if my left hand isn’t in place yet, but this is a very good thing to practice because rhythm trumps melody. If you don’t break rhythm it covers a number of flaws.

Very similar question has been asked twice recently and the answer is on page one of the forum main page:

Nice pickin’ @Philb ! Very smooth transitions as well!

Both songs have a very interesting history: here’s a bit on the House of the Rising Sun: https://www.songfacts.com/facts/the-animals/the-house-of-the-rising-sun

I hate to see questions go unanswered, especially a newbie’s question!

I was hoping a FBW alumnus would reply to you. Now that I see your question about to fall off the 1st page I thought I would bump this and attempt to answer it. I don’t have FW myself but then it occurred to me that you might be asking about the Foundations of Fretboard Navigation section. So I went in and watched lesson 1 and Tony explains how to find notes starting on the A string. That’s kind of logical since our alphabet begins with A also. He moves up the A string and then moves on to the E string. He uses the low E which is on the top of the guitar.

    Hope this answered your question.

I read your bio, Jeanne and it always fascinates me to get people’s music stories. Quite a few musicians have come to TAC once they realized they wanted to begin learning guitar. For some reason your situation, finding tablature frustrating because you can read music, made me think of a fabulous musician who approached the guitar in a totally different way. Perhaps you would find him interesting to listen to, or get some inspiration from. Stanley Jordan is a Jazz guitarist who plays like nobody else.

My goodness, some great food for thought there. Need to learn singing along early to make sure you’re learning the song in “your” key! Thanks for your input Moose!

    There are several ways:

    1. On the home page there’s a ? on the bottom right side. Click on it and it will open a chatbox. You’ll be chatting with a robot, but if your issue has weight then you’ll get a follow up from Victoria or someone on the support team.
    2. You can email support@tonypolecastro.com, a quicker way to get directly to the support team
    3. You can try to direct message Tpolecastro. I haven’t gotten any replies from Tony this way but he has engaged occasionally when I tagged him in the forum with “@” followed by Tpolecastro. I’m not doing it here so as not to tag him in this post. But just put them together like it is in @timothyaroggeoutlook-com .

By the way, do you know the Grace Like Rain version of Amazing Grace. It was very popular about 15 maybe 20 years ago. I’m not sure where it originated. I guess it was probably Tod Agnew, but Chris Tomlin popularized it as well. My old church used to play it frequently during worship. I miss hearing it.

Sometimes taking a moment to poke around in the forum can get your questions answered. (Sometimes it will answer questions you didn’t even know you wanted to ask).
