Well done, one of my favorite songs of all time! Makes me want to to learn mandolin!

Hello Kristin. I see that you live in Germany. Are you German speaking? I am originally from Austria and speak German. But I have lived in North America for most of my life.
Mach’s gut!-

What Kristin said is absolutely correct, and no questions are silly. It’s silly not to ask when you have thousands of people at your fingertips who have been doing this thing for longer than you!
Just jump in and try the challenge of the day! If it seems too tough to even attempt a measure or 2, then perhaps go to Monday’s challenge of the same week. Don’t worry about how much you can do or how many whole daily challenges you can go through. I always try to find “nuggets”: a nugget could be a thing that I learned or a small win of some kind. Maybe I surprised myself because when I heard Tony play and then looked at the TAB, it seemed so overwhelming but then it became doable! Some days you might discover a big win. Some days, and I’m quoting Tony here, your win might be that “you showed up”.It really helps to share your experiences in the Forums where you can get feedback. Also it can be useful to record your thoughts some place where you can access them again after you have forgotten them. I use Microsoft OneNote, I download the TABS and paste them into the Notes and record my comments there also. When the challenge comes around again I’ll have my past experiences to compare to.
You know Tony made a really interesting point in today’s challenge: if the challenge comes under your fingers quickly, that doesn’t mean you just made huge progress. When you are really challenged and start to think I can’t play a lick right now, it’s all too hard and you just want to give it up for the day, that’s when you need to push on and go a little further in because there’s a nugget just a little bit deeper in this mine; just a few more strokes of the hammer and the pick!
Those times it comes easy, that’s you reaping the rewards of past challenges

I clicked on this thread thinking: I don’t know this song “And it all came to a big halt!“. So sorry Loraine that this mishap occurred! You have been such a great encourager on TAC! Hoping that you can feel encouraged by all of us in return!
Wishing you Godspeed in the recovery process, please keep us posted! -
So sorry Rob! Hope you keep on rockin’!
One thing that occurred to me is that Tony is pretty good about explaining exactly the string, the finger to fret with and pick direction in a step by step manner. If I were not able to look at the computer screen I think I could do 1 or 2 measures each day just by listening and doing. That should keep you going!I know it’s not easy and I am not belittling what’s going on with your eyesight.

I too am trying to get a handle on reading the TABs. They give you the fret number but not necessarily the finger. In the beginning of my TAC journey I would print out the TAB and then watch the video carefully and write the finger number (1-4) on each note.
After a while I found this was not totally necessary since I am not trying to learn the whole challenge anymore, I only go as far as I feel like it and it’s fun for me. That I can do in my head. I watch Tony explain the challenge and then go into the PLAY mode. Often times it’s easier to pick up the method from the latter. Not always though because he will at times say to employ any vocalization you want (strum, cross pick, finger pick, etc) but the PLAY video will only have one of those. My issue is I can’t look at the TAB while I’m playing. I still have to look at my hands at this stage in my journey, although that is changing and I can see that in time I will be able to look at the TAB while playing. For now I need to look and subsequently play.
Now the notes are pretty much superfluous for me. I understand how to read them but yeah, can’t translate those to the fretboard. Years ago I played in a bell choir and we followed along by reading the notes.

I think you only get credited for one session per day and not sure how long you have to be logged in or what has to happen. I know I have lost streaks even though I was logged in and doing challenges, just failed to click on whatever to trigger the counter.

Wow, so impressed with your playing! And for me, not just impressive but also encouraging, thanks for posting!

Helpful advice, guys! Thanks! Just wanting to make sure I was understanding the structure and purpose of the lessons day by day. I think I was close but now I grasp it even better.

Agree Albert! Them’s some high notes I’ll never reach! Nicely done, Kevin!
Big fan of those old Bread songs:
Sweet Surrender, Guitar Man, but especially Aubrey! -
Well done Moose! I think it’s quite good already but do please post again if you are going to continue working on it!
Great Scott, Gerry Rafferty released some of the all time most memorable songs: “Baker Street” is still one of favs along with this one with Steelers Wheel and “Get It Right Next Time”! It’s sad that he led a very troubled life and died much too young at 63! -
Welcome to TAC, I’m fairly new also having joined July 3rd, 1 day before may 65th birthday. I’ve never had a private lesson but I tried 2 other online programs before and while they weren’t worthless, they weren’t sustainable because I lost interest and didn’t play consistently. The key is not to get lost on perfection, keep going.
I think students (and many teachers) tend to have you work a skill to death. After weeks of practice you may have learned that one skill but you’re still not a guitar player and you begin losing your joy in playing.
Don’t be discouraged if you can’t do everything that is presented in the challenges. This is normal and you will do better the next time it comes around.

@jumpinjeff I’m curious about your comment in another thread that learning songs may have impeded your progress because I seem to have heard others mention this also. We all want to be able to play songs, that’s got to be on the top of everyone’s list. What songs and the level of proficiency certainly will vary from person to person. I have a pretty long list of songs I want to be to play and early on I found myself trying to learn a few of them but I’ve since backed off and I’m not entirely sure why.
But I also find that not focusing on learning songs and not worrying about being able to play the entire Daily Challenge has upped my enjoyment of TAC in a big way.

Thanks so much, that is great answer and I’m quite sure it means a lot more than I understand right now!
