Great job. I’ve been working on that one off and on for a while. My interest and focus comes and goes. But Tony did say this one would take a while to learn. I’ll get it one day.
Again, great job!

I like @Bill_Brown suggestion. But really slow and steady is the key. You are right about going too fast and reinforcing bad technique. I’ll tell you, I still make sloppy transitions. And I’ve been playing for years, just don’t have the drive I did when I was 20 playing weekend dance halls. But that was electric guitar and drunk dancers are the most forgiving…

If I remember it correctly, your first row is the notes in the g scale. The second row used the same g scale notes only you start with the third note. The third row starts with the fifth note of the g scale. The notes are the same as the first row sharps and all.
G A B C D E F#
B C D E F# G A (same notes as row one, shifted two notes left)
D E F# G A B C ( same notes as row one, shifted 4 notes left)
So yes, the only sharps (or flats) are from row one. It sounds like you were writing the B major and D major scales for your second and third row which gave you all those extra sharps. And as you discovered was not correct.

But it’s getting a bit full. I might have to just cut the top of the packs to save room. Yeah, that’s ticket… cut the tops off.

Happy Birthday Julie. I hope this Fletch and Steve thing develops into a habit… How about a follow up with “Dominique”?

I’m thinking I might have to take a pick journey as well. But as of right now, still not really liking the D’Addario XS on this guitar. It’s the only guitar i have so I may never like them.

You may be experiencing the difference between the medium and custom light gauge. those are pretty light gauge. But it seems like you changed brands and gauge at the same time. More than likely it’s the gauge that is giving you that “tone”. You might want to try a different pick. Or use the rounded edge of the pick to see how it works with those strings. With these D’addario XS, I’m finding I have to use a different pick with them.

They do not feel as smooth as Elixirs under the skin. But the price of these is not going to let me replace a set of strings that are functioning properly. They are not a bad set of strings. Just don’t think they will be for me going forward.

At one time if you bought something from a link from this site, 100% of the referral money was being donated to Guitars for Vets. Not sure if Tony is still doing this or not. But here is the review with links for buying the strings below the review.

What works for me and my guitar may not for you and yours. Just keep in mind if you haven’t changed strings in a long time, any new string with sound fresh and crisp. Enjoy the journey.

MemberJuly 27, 2021 at 7:41 pm in reply to: D’Addario XS Phosphor Bronze Lights – First Impressions@Bill_Brown at $18 bucks they are staying on. My playing has not been very regular lately so they will stay on for at least 2 months. I will say the coating is really thin. They do squeak more than the elixirs. When I use elixir they stay on about 3 months. I also like the feel of the the elixir under my fingers. I’ll have to go back and find my post about the Martin flex code Tommy Emmanuels. Those were pretty good. I also liked the Martin monels . I tried the d’addario nickel bronze. They sounded good. I believe they are same or similar material to the monels. One of the wound strings had a quarter inch piece of of wire sticking out the ball end. I sent a picture to d’addario and they sent me a free set. They also sent me a brand new humidipak kit when I asked about mine lasting almost 2 years. They said mine was an old style and they made improvements and sent me a new one also free of charge. So I have high praise of their customer service.

Nothing spectacular about them. They are not bad. If I played them every day then perhaps they would have mellowed sooner. But the initial brightness didn’t appeal to my ears.
