Carter is playing great in his special way and it sounds good, although that is not so important in my opinion. I guess Carter would like an instrument as a christmas gift.

    Hello Mark,

I´m with TAC for 6 years. Since 2018. At first I tried to master each Challenge Monday to Friday. It was impossible, even with the weekends used to catch up. I was frustrated because it was so uncommon for me to be encouraged to let perfection go and move on that I just couldn´t do it. I was stressed by my hobby and stopped enjoing playing my guitar. A while later I didn´t check in every day (mo-fri) anymore because I had to catch up on already known and printed Challenges. And even later I allmost stopped playing at all because I was overwhelmed by the “work to do”.

But 27th October 2020 I did a reset. I promised myself: no more catching up! Instead doing the daily challenges on the day they where due for 10 minutes. Or longer – but only if I wanted. I didn´t allow myself a guilty concience – although it was very difficult at first.

That changed everything for me. Since that day I played allmost every day. And my guitar playing is getting better and better – even though till now I still can´t “master” most Challenges. But I´m doing allright and really enjoy the Challenges. And guess what? Now I choose a Challenge once in a while – when I like it or can use it in a song – and work on it until I can play it really good – considering my learning level. But those are the exceptions from the rule.

My advise is: do all the Daily Challenges on the supposed day for 10 minutes and mark them completed. After that it is every day up to you: do the Daily Challenge a little bit longer or anything else you want to play. BUT MOVE ON TO THE NEXT CHALLENGE THE NEXT DAY AND DON´T LOOK BACK – exept very, very few exceptions.

    Greetings from Germany

And defintily change your strings just before you start learning a barre chord, the mini-F for example. It makes a HUGE difference, in particular if you use low tension strings. (I like the Santa Cruz low tension strings).

    Hello tding,

just start moving your hand when Tony says “3” (or “1”) and you have 3 seconds (or 1 second).

    Hello @the-old-coach,

I just read a comment you posted in July. So I guess, you are still around at least once in a while. Although I don´t post much I always enjoyed reading your comments. Wheter you are back on the regular TAC 10 min/day basis or just visiting once in a while, I wish you a good and inspiring time whenever you are here.

Revisiting 30 Days to play, week 3 might help. It is about learning stumming patterns. On the tablature you can see the note symbols matching Tonys counting.

    Hello @Marty73,

I can´t thank you enough. Great song chosen. Great performances. Tobys and yours. I once saw Toby Keith at his only concert in Germany. Unfortuntly he wasn´t happy with the sound of the technique. If I remember right there was an unwanted echo. Therefore he ended the show much to early after app. 35/40 minutes without a proper googbye to his fans. Many fans -expecially those from faraway who flew in and had to stay in hotels overnight – but my husband and me as well were very disappointed. Nevertheless he is definitly a great artist and I really like his music .

This song I didn´t know before might be his very best. Marty, you made me look up the lyrics, the meaning, the guitar tabs and spend a nice evening learning this meaningfull song. Until now I always tried to avoid special tunings because on vacation I like to play ALL songs I know but only take one guitar with me and don´t like to change tuning while sitting on the beach playing guitar (my guitar dream scene). Even it is only one string. I guess from now on I will change the tuning.

    Greetings from Germany.

No hand creme at all. And no washing dishes by hand and no swimming a few hours before playing the guitar.

I use a Shubb. I think Tony recommended it once…

Keep the Bravo. I also have an – intentionally bought – very cheap guitar that I can take with me anywhere without feeling guilty about what the guitar has to go through.

And trust yourself with the other guitars. As long as you can reach the correct fretting positions with not to much diffculty and YOU like your guitar in general and its sound everything is OK. At least the Taylor will probably pass this standard. And later this year your friend might play your guitars to you- and you can find out just how good they can sound and if you want to keep them all.

Right now Just concentrate on playing your 10 minutes. There is no need to optimize everything right now. Everything will fall into place allmost automatically later. Trust the process.

Do not play immediately after washing the dishes or showering.

Don´t apply too much lotion to your fretting hand.

    Take breaks when needed.

I would have liked to have been told less and asked more questions. For example what music I like and want to play. For more purposefull instruction to receive.

A few weeks before my first year of TAC was supposed to end, I asked for a lifetime membership + Fretboard wizard . They just charged me the difference between the two prices because the first year was still going. But that was app. 5 years ago.

Sorry to hear that they changed the procedere.

Hello @N-lightMike, I totally agree with you. “Forget the rest” is my approach as well. Otherwise I´d feel behind 365 days a year. This year even 366 days ;-). Letting go of challenges without regret is not always easy, but essential for me. I only favourite a few challenges related to songs I learn. Because they are stepstones learning the song – not because they are unfinished challenges.

    Hello @BrandonK,

you CAN do the Daily Challenges. Just simplify. Example this week – so you get the idea:

    Set out running:

try only the first two notes of the TAB: hammer on low e-string 4>5.

10 minutes. NOTHING ELSE. MARK COMPLETE!

    Home before Daylight:

try only the first two notes on the TAB: hammer on d-string 4>5.

10 minutes. NOTHING ELSE. MARK COMPLETE!

    Twenty Bills:

measures 4, 5 and 6. Choose the notes on the D-string: 5>7>9>12>9>7>5>2>0>2>5>5. Take your time searching the right spot/measure and play note after note.

10 minutes. NOTHING ELSE . MARK COMPLETE!

    Devil`s Friend:

quick draw exercise counting yourself! 10 minutes. Maybe 10 minutes either G , C or D chord. Maybe 5 minutes G and 5 minutes C?

10 minutes NOTHING ELSE. MARK COMPLETE!

    American Beauty:

Maybe try to place your fingers: G chord > C chord > G chord > C chord… and strum each chord (1 down stroke). Take your time doing it! It is not a race!

10 minutes. NOTIHNG ELSE. MARK COMPLETE!

And believe me: those babysteps add up ;-). I was once where you are now.

    Greetings from Germany!
