Sounds really nice. How long does it take you to come up with something? just curious. You are inspiring me to work on my improv more.

Hi, Kim. Thanks for the kind comments and the question, which is a great question. For the improvs, I sometimes noodle around with the scale for up to 30 minutes or so before I find something that I am satisfied with. After I have already established where the scale notes are located, I listen and play along and try to get a feel for something. For some solos, it works in 5 minutes, for others, I may need to work at it more, if it doesn’t work for me. When I do this, I just record and keep going even if I restart the backtrack from the beginning. For this one, I went over different passages for about 20 minutes and then came up with what I posted. I hope this helps and I hope you will post some improvs for us also , Kim. 🙂

That was excellent, Charlie_d. I could see Clint Eastwood lifting his poncho and chewing his cigar as he stared at a rider slowly emerging through heat waves rising off the dust in the distance, i.e., very Ennio Morricone.

Absolutely masterful! You make it look so easy to coordinate the fretting and picking. Beautiful melody. You’re an inspiration @charlie_d

Wow! That was excellent. Well done. I’ve only just managed to play the through the scales. Wasn’t sure how to play them against the backing track though. Your video has really helped me understand how that might be done. Thank you for sharing 🙂

Thank you, JanC. I am glad that you got some ideas for playing around the scale with the backtrack. There are so many different approaches and that is what makes it a fun way to learn the scale and then take it in different directions.
