Small Win – Still healing
Posted by Marquita on June 20, 2021 at 8:05 pmTook some time to stay away from too much practice, too many performances… due to some arthritis trying to overtake my hands. In spite of the daily exercises, I continued to have problems, which I believe were brought on my carrying box after box to prepare for a home renovation. I think tension and lack of sleep added to the problem, so here I am. I played Saturday and Sunday at the VOMs, not well at all but I played… that is the point. I don’t believe in quitting… just taking time to heal. Patience brings me through.

Hi @Marquita , sorry to hear about you’re arthritis😱 I think that’s an awesome #smallwin👍 to push through the pain and continue on🤩. Lately, I’ve been dealing with arthritis in my hands/fingers also. I got an Aspercream product – over the counter- that has 4% lydicane. I rub it on my hands and fingers and after a little while, it gives me some relief. Perhaps a product like that could help you😎

Thanks, @Marissa! Oh, Several times each week that went by, I was so tempted to log on and join in (even just watching) but it was a bit depressing thinking things were going south for me… but I simply couldn’t put all the years of having a goal (to be a better player) aside. So, I’m trying. I still may take it slow until the pain dissipates.🤗 I’ll have a week of not playing at the end of the month as I travel, so that will force rest.🤣

Hang in their @Marquita . I think taking the time to heal is a smart thing, as well has your overall health and well being. You recognized some matters that could be contributing to your overall condition, and recognizing the need for change is the first step.

Way to go you are an inspiration for the rest of us to keep pushing to play! 🤙

Thanks, MJV – I’m trying to keep to a lighter touch fretting for now… and have decreased practice time to the first sign of pain returning. Trying to play it smart. Stretching and moving the neck/shoulders on down to the fingers seems to help a bit but doesn’t last long. But it will get better!😉

@Marquita I’m glad you took some time to heal, wish I could have made the VOM’s last weekend. I made Friday but missed the rest

Thanks @Alfred I’m glad there wasn’t a crowd at the VOMs this past weekend because my playing wasn’t where it is without pain. It also seemed to affect my enunciation and I even stuck a word that didn’t belong into a line. yikes. It- will get better. I am thankful that TAC/VOM family encourage and not heckle. Oh, yea, I’ve experienced that one, but I like the encouragement more. 😉

I remember I had the same problem @Marquita when I first joined TAC. What I used was Australian Dream for back pain. It really helped with the arthritis in my hands. Rub it in about 1/2 before you play. It really helped me. 🧐🧙♂️😎
