TABS, often Wrong!!!
*Bad Tabs*??? Tabs are *Absolutely Vital*, to Me!…. I can’t just *Follow Tony’s Fingers*, and FEW Should Need to!! {that’s utube’s DEFECT}… So WHEN will *All of the *Bad Tabs* be updated, to Match Updated Video?* FACT: Nice Updated Videos are Only ‘as Good’ as the TAB which clarifies ‘which finger goes Where (both hands) ‘
I Can/Will just write off my $200 *contribution* , IF *This Site* cannot *Keep up*??

Hi @Geordie I’ve noticed a few instances where the tabs might differ slightly from the lessons, but I can’t say I’ve noticed it a lot. My suggestion is to write the service desk and ask them about the incorrect tabs. Be as specific as you can (lesson date, name, and what’s incorrect in the tabs.

OK, @ Lorraine…However, I suggest (as a Daily Tab User) that *slightly* is still Wrong.
And, *occasionally* translates to “Minimum 2 times per week”? Perhaps you do not really use Tabs ‘Daily’ and ‘Always’, as I must?
Finally, I find far too many Bad Tabs (from ‘slightly’ to ‘grossly’ wrong, misleading) to waste ‘guitar time’ Trying to specifically ‘Collect’ for submission. ‘They’ *Need* to at least Check them against the ‘Upgraded Videos’? I do Read ‘Comments’ and there were Many complaining about ‘Wrong tabs’, the week of Feb 2, esp. on a Wed????
What *Level* are you at, skill wise?

@Geordie , I’m going to guess that updating any of the tab sheets won’t be done. It would just be too time consuming. I can’t say that I have seen anything that I would call wrong. I think @Loraine had some good suggestions thou. At least you would get some input one way or another so you can make a decision.

Sorry @Geordie I can neither confirm nor deny. I never used tabs except when first starting out and couldn’t figure something out by ear. It was my method of last resort. I found doing it by ear accomplished two things: first Ear Training; Second, it accelerated my learning process on the way to intuitive playing. Have you tried just listening and getting it by ear?

I Do NOT have a Good Ear, at all….have ‘Tried’ many times, i can’t figure out a I,IV,V…song unless i get plain Lucky! Good for You! But, I am Not discussing near “Perfect Pitch” (To ‘me’, anyway)…This argument does nothing to Fix the Tabs, yes?

You are right does nothing to fix your problem with the tabs. I probably should have been quiet since I have no experience with Tabs. No argument, just other strategy. Apologies @Geordie

My experience is different. I use the tabs daily and (in the rare instance that they differ from what Tony plays) it only excites me that my Fretboard Wizard acquired knowledge, let’s me understand why it is still “okay”. I often vary from the tab in my last few minutes of “the 10 minutes” and keep it fun by exploring what else musically and theoretically works. It is absolutely vital to me to have fun even in the face of the Rule of the Tab. Hum… I muse. Philosophically, are there no bad tabs, just unforeseen dissonance?

*Rare* is incorrect! (big things And little things). Yes, I have much experience which allows me to (usually) get by fine. (i learned ‘classical music notation First’)
But, Thousands of people do not/will not ever have *Fretboard Wizard*, I speak also, for Them.

I, too, use tabs whenever they are available, so almost every day. Occasionally there is an inconsistency between the tab and what Tony says and demonstrates, but to me they are minor differences. Sometimes I’ll print a tab and make a note about the difference. I keep a three-ring binder with some of my favorite tabs so that I can work on them without always having to sit at the computer.

“Occasionally?”… “Minor” … I suggest that you Really Look. I am *Not* just talking about *Wrong notes*. Printing? Well certainly, But, to me…the Greatest advance made by PC’s is *No more Piles of songs, hard to read, keep a Hold ON, Lost, when I Want a specific Tune* Besides the Above: “I am Not Paying to ‘Correct Mistakes’??”

@Geordie You’re right. There are times when the tabs are off. They don’t match what Tony’s demonstrating in his video. I’ve noticed it, too. Infrequent, but noticeable, and a bit puzzling.

Everyone, it seems, Repeats the words “rarely”, ‘infrequent’, *Never*, etcetera.
I AM pointing to ALL types of errors, Not just ‘typos’ or just ‘musical notes’.
I See what ‘I’ See, I include *All misleading, incorrect, or missing embellishments Like *which fingers are used for fingerpicking*, a BIG one, since Tony certainly Has his own *Very Unique* Style, especially there! Tony, on Friday, Feb 25…showed ‘Me’ *How to play a simple ‘A’ chord, using basically a ‘D’ Shape*! Tony talked about “My Strange method of playing the ‘A’…and, like Many other times said: “That’s just how ‘I’ learned it, YOU can do it many Other ways?” Yer dern tootin’ I Can/Will . I can immediately, think of 3-4 different ways which are Better, Including the ONE that I learned first and used for many yrs. until recently! I BET ‘Few’ have Ever seen that way ? ‘ x011200 ‘ i.e. : ‘that’s’ just a part of the Need for Meaningful tabs.

I can’t tell you how many times I thought the tabs were off, @Geordie and then realized I was wrong when I looked closer.
It turns out that the tabs are never wrong. It turns out that Tony occasionally plays, and sometimes even teaches, something that is different than he put down on the tab. Tony frequently says he is playing differently than he put on the tab. You will never go wrong following the tabs. Yes, I have used the tabs every single lesson for almost 3 years. However, you will also never go wrong playing and/or practicing what Tony actually shows or plays in the videos. Finally, you will never go wrong by playing something different than is on the tab or than what Tony teaches or what Tony plays. It’s music! If it sounds good, it is good. That’s all that matters.

*It* is a ‘Music Lesson’ ! I, for ONE, could Never learn by Looking at Tony’s, or Anyone’s Fingers, well Maybe a ‘D’ chord?
*i* am Paying for a Music lesson with Tabs. If i just Accept that i will Often Not Learn ‘that which Tony strives to Teach’ or *Simply riff away and Improvise*?
Is That, truly, All that I am paying for? (Not a Huge amount, *to Me*, but i not Rich)

@Geordie – I don’t think the tabs are ever wrong, they are once in a blue moon just a tad different than what Tony is playing. Usually he mentions this. There are many ways to play things with improvised changes and adjustments which are quite fine and keep with the intent of the daily lessons. Tony even encourages you to experiment and try your own variations. The intent is to show up every day and the daily exercises are the means to do that. You can play them exact or add a little spin.

Just to Clarify my interpretation of a ‘Bad Tab’ :
1. Worst, is Tab with wrong Notes.
2. Many Tabs include ‘Fingers’ to use for fingerpicking. Many Do Not.
3. Some Tabs include ‘Chords’, Many don’t. Tho, It’s not Hard for ME to Play usually.
I can easily see ‘Other people’ with a Different upbringing, finding this Difficult.
4. I am forgetting ‘ALL’ the various (Small things to some?) items which are Either included One Day then missing the Next Day? *There are Many, Every week*
5. Anyone here who ‘Claims to see: “Few and rare mistakes….is Just Wrong”! OR, thinking *Only* of *Wrong Notes*?
To: The person who Claims: “Tabs will never be fixed…It’s just Too Hard”… hasn’t Thought this ‘Simple, one-person process, through ?’ One Could ‘Fix’ Months of Tabs in a Week, I believe that ‘i’ could, if YOU could *Catch me and Nail me to a Desk?* heh….

Seems to me, when 2 people say “There ARE NO Mistakes”, someone’s In Denial.

1. ‘Never’ IS very strong language to Use Here, irrefutably So!! *Never*?? *Ever*?
2. Many, many times I have Heard Tony say about ‘His’ techniques: “Well, it May seem like a very strange way to play, but That Is what ‘i’ learned; You ‘all can Play it your own way, of course!!” I have rarely/never heard Tony *Point* to a tab diff.

After 2 yrs. of *Isolation* (groceries only time out) now, I Do find that ‘Warnings’ re
too much Isolation can be Damaging in some way, to anyone; Are Now Making a true believer of me!! This sorta *Generalized muted Anger* …I do believe influences Many of my Comments! (On ‘Any’ website whenever ‘i’ See a chance!!) Just in the past Month or so?? Good Observation, reading Between lines? Yeh?

However, *My Pet Issue, here*…does NOT mean “There IS a better sys for me” nor do it mean that: “This is NOT: The BEST sys …for ME? y’know? Right now, i have Not even looked at these Possibles in 2 yrs…..SO i do NOT know, nor do I care to bother.
This is a *Very Good Guitar site* …The ‘Genius’ here is Motivation to Play that thang.
The couple of other sites I have tried, Just take yer $$ and *You are FREE* to roam and DO anything you like. Well, for those spent Any time in ‘college’…you Know just how often *Freedom leads to Drop outs* lots…since many go From Hi skool (strict) to ‘college’ (No restrictions, mostly) POINT: I joined a site for a Year, and Learned 2 or 3 Techniques (partly) since I had ‘No Goal’ to Get me ‘There’ once in 2 mths??

@Marguita…..Printing is Good for some, but That is what i did for decades. Paper is just a Nuisance (without a File Clerk? heh) It flops about, slides off wherever one trys to place IT, etc. I DO similar to you, but i immediately switch between Screens. No corrections are “usually” possible??? (sometimes it Works? on PDF’s, so I am Not an expert on making corrections on PDFs and Saving w/o Losing MY markings??)
Yes, of course, teachers, professors etc. are ‘properly’ teaching us ‘to Think, analyze for ourselves etc.’….*All i want is a reliable Tab* and maybe a single member who has Seen the truth.
In, this, my First visit to the ‘Forums’: I, Now, have a deep sense that these ‘Forums’ are where Tony’s *Inner Circle* resides?? *Denial, Other perspectives, *Anything* BUT…. just a wee Touch of criticism of *This holy site?* (In the good ‘intellects’ who have commented well…and the ‘Zero’ attitudes of the many who ludicrously Claim:
*There are NO MISTAKES….or RARE ERRORS or REDIRECT TO ‘OTHER REALMS’?*
Far ….far Too much Denial and Redirection; Not ONE (1) affirmation, which WAS my main Goal.
Caveat: “I” can get by Just Fine w/o Perfection in anything here. BUT, I Did See, on many occasions (in the Lesson Comments) Beginners or New Members or Others…commenting Up to 5 times on *The Tab* for any One Lesson. These people NEED an Answer, yet few Lesson comments address ‘Them’!!
‘I’ decided to *Try* this Forum (of which i have zero knowledge of What/who??)
And, as i Said, *This Forum* gives every appearance of an Inner Circle, set up to Celebrate the greatness of this site while Ensuring that No Critics are Tolerated??

I fear, that Tony is just following Directors/ions from the “Money Folks” (excepting ‘Acoustic Tuesday’ and Other stand outs which Seem to be Tony’s true interest and his Arena for His ‘Current Interests and Insights’, NOW….NO body Can “Blame Tony”! “It’s all the New ‘Team of outsiders’? period.

@Geordie I have read this entire thread. There is a problem with humans. None of us are perfect. And there’s a positive attribute to humans. Each of us has a different approach to solutions. I’ve read the others’ ideas and will give you mine. It may not be to your liking, but I thought it would be worth a try as you are having such a difficult time.
When I open the lesson, the first thing I do is print out the TABS page and look over it to see if I can understand what is going on. Then I keep the TABS page in front of me and as Tony explains, I make notes on the page. For instance, sometimes the key is not written and I’ll write it in. I stop the video and replay any part that seems confusing to me. The other solution I try is slowing the video down and watching his fingers, backing it up as many times as I need to in order to finally “get it”. Learning new things is not easy for any of us. not one of us whizzes through a lesson without studying. If I could do that, maybe I could just buy a book and teach myself. But that’s not the situation nor a solution.
In college, the professors would expect students to use critical thinking as it engages more of our brain than him just telling us every aspect of a problem was. A chemistry teacher once told the class, “My job isn’t to just teach you chemistry, it’s to teach you to find solutions to problems.” He told us that we need to use more than our ears to really learn. It took a bit, but I finally understood.
Patience is a huge aspect to learning. I wouldn’t trade those lessons for anything. I learned from those years and now, if I don’t understand something (In any part of life), I try to look, listen and attempt to put the lesson into practice again and again. After a period of time, it sinks in. The good thing is that on these lessons, we have opportunity to mark the lesson and return to it anytime we want. Good luck in your guitar journey, no matter where it leads you. It has given me back the joy that had been stolen during these last couple of years. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.🙂
