  • Posting in the forums – Did you know?

Posted by Loraine on February 4, 2022 at 5:43 pm

First, happy Friday everyone. I hope your day is going well.

    Did you know …

    1. If your Forum name matches your Nickname, others can respond to you, and you’ll receive a direct Notification in the forums. You can then click on the Notification link (little bell 🛎 in upper right corner) and it will take you directly to the direct response to your post. There is no need to search for your message in order to read replies and comments. To make sure your forum name matches your Nickname, go to your Profile and view or edit. No spaces are permitted in the nicknames, so make sure your forum name match that way too.

    2. When responding to a post, let the poster know you’ve commented or replied by starting the conversation with @forum name. When you type this in, a pop up will appear with the member’s name. Just click on that and continue typing your comments. Once posted, your response will send a Notification to that person or persons, and they’ll be able to go right to your reply.

These are real time savers and a great way to let someone know about your reply and interest in their post. Let me know if anyone is confused or has questions.

Thanks @Loraine , I have started doing this myself. I like getting a notification from someone who is answering one of my posts or a comment that I have made. Thanks again.

I thought a poster got notifications of reply’s by default. This is also meant to be a test of that!

It’s a little wonky. I think replies to replies generate notifications, but replies to original posts don’t. I could be wrong, but that seems to be the pattern. I guess if you get a notification on this, then we have a data point. 😁

Totally agree that if you reply by hitting within someone’s post, it generates a notification, but not if you hit the big reply button.

@Loraine, I see my nickname in my profile, but I don’t see my forum name. Where do I look?

@DavidinTTown Your forum name is what shows up next to your photo in the forums. As long as it matches your nickname, you should be good to go (you’re good – I was able to tag you @)

@Loraine , your post was a great idea. There are so many new people (Newbies), and they need to know how to “operate” within the Forums. I would also like to let people know that it’s proper Forum etiquette to acknowledge a member for their response to your post. And by that, I mean that if you post something and people respond to your post, you should answer them in some way, so that they know you’ve read what they’ve taken the time to say – it’s just proper etiquette!

Thanks @Loraine for letting me use your post as a way to get this message out.

Great point about acknowledging a response @Bill_Brown . That is not something I do all the time, but it is good etiquette.

@Loraine I rarely get notifications… what exactly has to match? Let me know if you got the notification for this message as I tagged you.

Hi @Carol-3M-Stillhand I received notification of your post. Because you correctly tagged me, The @;Name is someone’s nickname, which usually is the same as what is showing next to their profile pic, but there are a few people that have different nicknames than what is showing (they changed it), and in those instances you will either not be able to tag them, or you’ll have to go to their profile and look up their nickname. It’s much easier to have everyone just list their nickname as their forum name so they don’t miss out on replies.

Just so others understand about how to view notifications, I received a message under the bell icon at the top right of the page. By clicking on it, you’ll see any current notifications and which discussion you were tagged in. By clicking the message, you’ll be taken directly to the comment that you’ve been tagged in. Hope this answers your question.must match the forum nickname, which is usually the same as the name showing next to someone’s comment. However, some people have a different nickname than there forum name. In those instances, you won’t be able to tag them unless you go in their profile and look up their nickname.
