3rd TACiversary- Celebrate
1. Where were you with guitar when you joined?
I could play chords, but no improvisation, no finger picking, no real flat picking. My playlist consisted of memorized chord progressions with a few bass runs, but no real understanding of theory and how the music was constructed or worked well. My TAC goal was not to play like a virtuoso, but like a lounge piano player. Someone pick a song and we will play and sing together.
2. What are three things you can do now that you couldn’t do before TAC?
1) I can finger pick new songs like Joy to the World and Silent Night and I can flat pick new songs like Auld Lang Syne. The Beaumont Rag, and Billy in the Lowground.
2) My finger strength, flexibility, and reach and my rhythm and timing (after yielding to that matronly metronome) and my chord transition up the neck and scale transition across the neck is much improved (and reaching comfortable) and I am a Fretboard Wizard.
3) My songs are becoming more enhanced with breaks, dynamics, and percussion. I can improvise a little without a lot of angst since I understand what the song is doing from a music theory viewpoint. Transposition to keys within my voice range come easily. I played an real open mic this past year and hosted a Christmas Carol Sing a Long and enjoyed it.
3. Complete this statement: It would be amazing if this time next year I have played another open Mic and have added 12 new cover songs (one a month) to my playlist from artists who are not dead and are still actively creating new music to include at least one flatpicking and one alternate tuning song.
