  • Wood Mouse Wood in Jimmy Page Tuning

Posted by Moonhare on June 25, 2022 at 2:08 am

During one of those potential ‘derailing’ periods (see video) I have still managed to keep playing every day and wrote this piece to play at the Scones VOM last Thursday. It snagged up a bit on the night so I tried again this morning and ran through in one take! As I can’t record in my studio for now I hope the sound is not too awful straight off my cheap bridge camera.

    ALTERNATE TUNING DARREN?

Funny you should ask. As you know I’m a sucker for alt tuning and this is in classic Jimmy Page Tuning DGCGCD (see my previous video of Led Zepp’s Rain Song). And FYI “Wood Mouse Wood” is where we relocate the regular supply of wood mice that creep into our 620 year old cottage through the walls that are made of sticks and animal dung (I’m not kidding!).

Hope doggie does ok. I like listening to many of the folks here because they stumble but play from the heart. I also like listening to people like you who also play from the heart but are very advanced and are real musicians. Yet everyone is doing their best and their messages get through. Thank you Moonhare. I especially like your finger picking and unique use of chords

Thanks @mrfredsporty – Lyra making a good recovery. I’m not sure how ‘advanced’ I am on guitar after 14 months of TAC but for me I’m just making the most of simple techniques and chord combinations to create something I’d like to listen to. 🤟😎🎸

Your progress has been remarkable @Moonhare. I do enjoy listening to your playing very much. Nice picking and percussion with this one.

You are clearly devoted to your canine family member. Wishing a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹

Thanks on all counts. Lyra’s leg is healing well now but still 6 weeks of keeping her safe. So far so good on the guitar. I’m more comfortable with finger style so this plays to my strengths but I have bought a brass slide after one of Tony’s recommendations on his Acoustic Tuesday show a couple of weeks back and am going to give that a proper go now.

Hope Lyra (spelling?) will get better soon🐕 @Moonhare . Looks like you’re doing everything you can to accommodate her👍

The recording came out quite nicely and your playing was superb👏👏👏 I really enjoyed listening, in fact I listened to it several times😎 I liked the sound that you created with the alt tuning😱 particularly around the 2:20 mark and through to the end – really nice stuff🎸🎼 I have to agree with @Guitargeezer-Jack , your progress is “remarkable” and might I add that your creativity is spectacular – you are journeying well my friend🤩 and it looks like you’re having fun doing it!

You got ‘Lyra’ spot on and she is doing so well. It has meant getting onto TAC has been tricky so I’ve been playing and writing more on my own, hence this piece. Hope to get back on the forums properly once she has recovered. 🤟😎🎸

A really lovely piece @Moonhare . Your finger picking, rhythm and melody are very, very good. Well done! 👏👏👏. Your performance seemed soothing to your canine family member and I wish her a speedy and full recovery!

Thanks. Before her accident Lyra would come into the studio and wag her tail whenever I played certain pieces of music! I considered posting the VOM of Wood Mouse Wood but I knew I could play it better. Really enjoyed your performances on Thursday. You are a total natural and time willing, I hope to see you at some more.

Very nice composition and easy on the heart. Hope Lyra and your domicile recover quickly. I enjoy your guitar journey with you and thank you for sharing it with us. (Interesting that there is an “us” when you think about it)

Thanks. Yes it will be a bit of a journey this next few weeks but worth it for Lyra who will be back to normal. Glad you liked the piece. Still struggling to barre chord so I’m jyst using every trick in my (small) book to get to the music I want to play. Long may all of ‘us’ continue to improve. 🤟😎🎸

Thanks so much @cadgirl @bugmeist @jonathandavid and @kevinz for listening. It is tricky to get on the forums at the moment while looking after Lyra but wanted to post something quick as it has been a while.

Lyra looks to be in good hands. May the recovery be quick.
As for your paying; loved it, nailed it!
What a great sound, use of bent notes, creating a great style.
You could be making a Youtube video off of that and teach how to play it.
    Excellent!

Thanks for that. Lyra is doing well and in a week the cone can come off. Huzzah! I was really pleased with this tune. It developed gradually over two weeks. A Youtube tutorial? 🤔

    Hi Darren;

I responded to your post on JMG, but just thought I should give you a comment here as well. I can’t say too often how much I like the original songs you have come up with. This one is just as much fun and just as enjoyable to listen to as the first one.

And of course, I hope Lyra gets better soon.

Lyra is doing really well thanks. Still 5 weeks to go but she’s on the mend. Writing a tune now called Limpy Lyra! 🤟😎🎸

Thank you Kurt. I’m getting to the stage where I can start to insert some techniques in.
