Why not shoot a video or take a picture showing your porch set up. Would love to hear songs performed outside.</div>

Loraine Loraine – I really like practicing and playing on the front porch out in the open – sure beats the confines on the windowless basement. Last year when I had the guitar on the front porch, I would stop playing and lay low if someone walked by (we live on a fairly busy street), with folk walking or biking by on a regular basis. This year, my confidence is at the point where I just keep on playing when someone walks by = Small Win 😀The only problem has been the weather – It has been quite humid and hot, except for last week which had several great outdoor playing days.

@ChuckS I hear you regarding the weather. Hot, humid and extremely dry (just outside Philly), but I’m going to try it. My porch was turned into a foyer years ago, but I have a nice deck out back. I haven’t been brave enough to play outside yet, because I don’t feel skilled enough. No time like the present to overcome that fear.

@Loraine , I am going to be there. I’m still a little shy about recording (i have a couple of songs on TAC, but not lately). I have my book of music that I’ll be taking out with me. Also I have 8 songs to memory. ok…. #8 Moonshadow is still a little rusty. I HAVE A ‘play on the porch day’ SHIRT!!! I am ready!! Hopefully my husband isn’t home so he won’t see me make a fool of myself. ha ha ha.

@Cadgirl Youre cracking me up. Such visuals, but I have faith in you! Go out and have some fun with it. I just returned from 2 weeks in Virginia at UVA taking industry course for company. I took guitar with me, but I was so self conscious that others could hear me, and I’m not that good. I played strumming with just my barehands, until one day I was tired of the restraint and I used a pick. Probably still played lightly so as not to have management or the police called. It felt good, and I figured these people don’t know me from Jack. My deck is a little different story, but I’ll give it a go.

Plan on doing a song for this also @Loraine my music carries across the lake and I get accused or asked if I am having a party by my neighbors everytime I sing and play outside so I use my camper lets me get on it without disturbing everyone ha ha😀 saw it on FB nice of you to share it
-
Thanks @KevinZ – I doubt I’d be accused of having a party if I played and sang outside. I’m meek as a mouse and play softly and whisper/sing. I don’t have enough confidence to play any other way. I tend to speak softly to, or so I’m told, so my singing is just extension of my normal way of talking. I don’t like the feeling of yelling when I raise my voice.

I worked in a power plant with turbines and boilers doing electrical and instrumentation hearing protection was a must so speaking loud and clear was a must if you wanted to be heard I had many lead roles in musical productions some were in outdoor arenas had to sing loud and clear no mics 12 to 14 shows weeks and weeks of practice love music and dancing of all types @Loraine kind of an oddball that way ha ha😀

Well Imscrewed up today and failed to play outside. I went to an art festival and it was just too hot to sit outside when I got home. My deck is on the south side of house and gets the full sun and all the blazing heat.

@Loraine, I am totally bummed that I also didn’t play outside on porch day. I feel like a slacker! I think i’ll go out and sit on the swing and play a few tunes. We’ll have decent weather (Michigan) for a couple of months yet. I’ll start playing outside more and next year i’ll be ready. We’ll have to do a zoom meeting and force both of us out of the house!!

Totally forgot it was Porch Day, but I jumped at the chance to get out on the porch mid morning vice hanging in the windowless basement, as there was a nice NE Jersey breeze despite the humidity. Did finger exercises, blues runs and other things that were beyond my reach along with attempting a few tunes. Didn’t worry about how it all sounded at all, was just happy to be out there getting at it. Had to give it up in the afternoon as the breeze disappeared, the heat picked up and the humidity just stayed bad😀

We’ll be ready for next year. Break the fans out and stack the tables with ice cold beers.
-
I’m not sure what area of the world you are ChuckS, but we also had a nice breeze late morning/early afternoon, but it became very hot very quickly in the afternoon. I’ll have to shoot more for the a.m. period next year. Sounds like you felt a freedom in playing without worrying about what others thought, and I think that’s a large part of the movement. Freedom and enjoyment of music outdoors. Nothing beats it.
-
@Lorraine -Central Jersey shore area, so when a NE breeze appears, (assuming you are not in the middle of an east coast Nor’Easter), that is the time to get out on the porch. As the humidity is currently sitting at 99% this morning with a 74 degree dew point, there will not be any porch playing today😄
-
Yeah, I’m outside Philly, so I completely understand about the rarity of a nice breeze, especially with the type of Summer we’ve been having (very hot, humid, and no rainfall). Get out when you can and have fun!
