how crazy can a “mature” guy get!
Posted by Mrfredsporty on November 18, 2022 at 6:53 amWell ill tell how: I just got rid of my beautiful Martin hd 28!…..BUT I am one of the fairly few who have gotten their hands on the new Super D from Martin. It is the largest dreadnaught that Martin now makes and it is a beauty. Koa back and sides, vts sitka spruce top. New herring bone design. I cant believe it almost puts my hd 28 to shame and that guitar is no slouch. I just had to do it before i croak. Man does it sound good!. I just put santa cruz strings on it. wow!.I named this one Arnold (pronounced Arnolt(!) because it is so powerful.

Wow, mrfred, you ain’t foolin’ around! Just looked at the Martin website, and that is certainly one stunning looking guitar! I’m guessing there’s no need to amplify that baby! I find the dread sized guitars awkward to handle, but maybe someday I’ll discover one that is comfortable for me to play. Anyway, enjoy making more music with Arnold😀🎸

thanks, Gerry. You know the funny thing is that it is actually pretty comfortable to hold. does not feel bigger than my hd 28 did.

Fred-
I am in envy of your guitar mindset and collection, indeed!
And can only dream of owning anything like— either one— of those guitars.
Carry on!

Well TOC I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but “I just had to have it”

Happy NGD @Mrfredsporty ! I had a look at Martin’s site as well – what a beauty! Looking forward to hopefully hear you play it one day via a post!

I saw that a couple of months ago myself, impressive, however I own a D-28 myself. Not sure how it can sound any better and I could not justify the expense. Anyway Fred, I hope it brings you hours and hours of enjoyment, and look forward to a post of you and your new companion. Rock on.

You are 100 percent right on all accounts . I still feel that way and now I own it. I do think it sounds a little better than my hd 28 . It is like a controlled power. I too cannot justify the price. I did get a $500 discount because it was the one Martin used to demo at empire guitar.but I figure I really don’t know how long I have left and so I just said “screw it” and went for it.

@Mrfredsporty , sounds like a great addition to your family. The dreadnoughts are a little too big for me but if you can handle the power in those strings, you won’t even need an amp. Congrats and enjoy. Was this a Christmas gift to yourself?
-
I’ll say yes on that. It is also an I’m nearing the end of my visit on this earth so I might as well go for it!

Good for you @Mrfredsporty as none of us know what our future holds. As a hospice nurse I heard too many regrets (should of, could of on a wide range of dreams) but “carpe diem” applies for you to happily pluck away on your very special Martin.

We all know that the more we love our guitar, the more we play. Just consider it as an investment in awesomeness. Congrats.
