  • As I near the end of my year

Posted by Mrfredsporty on March 17, 2023 at 6:42 am

I’ve only got about 2 weeks left of my membership here.this what has happened. I started as an almost beginner after dabbling off and on for about 50 years making no progress at all.now, my fingerpicking is smoother, I’m learning more songs. My knowledge of theory has gone from 0 to ok.But I think the biggest thing is that my ears are more open. I’m hearing and paying attention to things I never did before.and I’m enjoying it much more as i CONSISTENTLY practice and play. I’ve also gone from a cheap nylon string to one of better and largest Martin steel strings made (the super D koa dreadnaught )which I have fondly named Arnolt! After the terminator cuz it is so powerful. This will be my last until i croak (I’m age 78).so, the advances you can get here are real! I think the main lesson of many is consistency, consistency followed by consistency.

I started at 60 with no previous experience, now 63 and over 900 sessions with Tony so far. You are one of my role models on this thread.

So @Mrfredsporty , you’re coming up on your 1st TACiversary🎂🍾🥂 Congrats👏👏 From reading your post, I got the feeling that weren’t sure about continuing with TAC. Is that true?

Yes that is true. Although I have learned A LOT on this great site I’m getting a little too specialized in my goals. This is NOT a dig at the site nor at Tony. I will miss the sight and the forums. There is one thing I have not found on any other site and that is the sense of community. There are fabulous folks here. I do live only on social security ( cuz I was stupid selfish and had too much fun) so I have to be very careful of how I spend my money. I’ve found a site that caters more selectively to my aspirations of independent thumb folk finger picking. Again this just me and I think folks with different or broader goals have certainly Come to the right spot.

“Sportster”—- (remember that old thread about how we all got our “names”?- 😎).

I’m gonna miss you…… for sure!

You ALWAYS brought new viewpoints and discussion ideas/threads, shared your discoveries- (this really helps ALL of us!)- and kept things light and fun in here.

Onward and upward my ol’ friend!

@mrfredsporty – really sorry to hear you are hitting the eject button, and hope you reconsider. I always enjoyed your observations If you bail, I think you will miss the sense of community here, especially with those of us who are more seasoned wrt time spent on earth.

Whatever your decision, wish you the best of luck on your guitar journey.

Thanks ChuckS, you really expressed my feelings accurately. I will miss everyone. What surprises me is the number of people who have reached out to me to say goodbye and say very nice things.. I really will remember them all.
