Bob Taylor – Can He Save Our Guitars?

Bob Taylor founded Taylor Guitars in 1974. Today he’s trying to change the world by raising awareness of sustainable wood harvesting.

We are guitar geeks. We drool over expensive guitars non-stop. But until now most of us haven’t been exposed to this information.

Bob’s stories are full of wisdom and new perspectives.

  1. Bob’s attention to building with reasorces they are staging and harvesting themselves is amazing! I have so much respect for Taylor and how they operate. Great interview!

  2. Check out the Taylor tour on Youtube. He covers many places that supply the wood for our guitar addictions. With people like Bob Taylor and Chris Martin i can see beautiful guitars being built for many many generations if not forever.

  3. What can I say? I like all the interviews Tony presents. To me the most interesting aspect of the Bob Taylor interview was the conversation about sustainability of natural resources to make guitars. It’s a very important subject that I hadn’t thought about much. Taylor has the correct approach. So, this interview was very enlightening on many levels. Thanks Bob and Tony.

  4. I was inspired by Bob Taylor’s reflection on Andy Powers and his comment that if you make a list of what you want, you won’t miss it when you see it.

  5. Hearing the passion for sustainability in the woods and the lengths they are going to make it happen is quite something. I even went to their respective websites to read more about what they are doing.

  6. I wasn’t aware that Guitars were available in maple body… Being canadian I am interested in one. Thanks for this.

    1. Hi Ross:
I saw your comment after watching the Taylor video. There are some great Maple backed guitars made by Boucher in Canada. They have adirondack tops and maple backs in some cases. They have a really clean snappy sound especially with maple. I don’t own one but have played a few in music stores.
Here’s a video link with a few models being tried out by a dealer in Chicago..

  7. There are many things that I admire about the Taylor guitar company, but Bob Taylor’s dedication to sustainable sourcing is at the top of the list. Growing something for future generations of guitar makers, something which you will, personally, never see reach maturity is truly awesome. We can only wish that that kind of forethought was demonstrated by many other industries in this and other parts of the world.

  8. It is good to hear from a manufacturer that not only care for his business, but also for the world. I look forward to rewarding myself with a Taylor guitar once I achieve my goals!

  9. What a great message from a leader with real vision. Our world is dictated by sound bites and and 4 yrs political mandates, it’s wonderful to hear about people thinking and planning in multi generation terms. Taylor guitars are world class products and it’s comforting to know that the sticker price supports all of Bob’s vision for leading edge guitars built with sustainable products now and for the rest of time. Thank you for sharing this truly inspirational interview!
