I have never attended a VOM yet. I’ll have to get past that road block and attend one myself. Good for you for attending.

People are so sweet and you don’t have to play if you don’t want to. I hope you do this, if you have the desire.

@cadgirl you should attend a VOM soon, There is never any pressure to play a tune and you’ll get a great idea of the variety of skill levels. Also you will meet some very supportive and talented guitar players. If you want to play just realize that you won’t be the only nervous one…the nerves fade (a bit) the more you play.

Bill, I had my moments of my fingers suddenly feeling like sausages that were not very much under my control. I opted to use music but next time I plan to do a memorized song, so I may fully embrace opportunities for brain freeze. Thanks for checking in!

@bugmeist and @Bill_Brown , As of right now I don’t have sound on my computer. I have to wear headphones to hear anything so i would be a silent attendee. Is that an issue with attending a VOM without sound?

As long as you can hear them @Cadgirl , it’s all good😎 The VOM’s are done on Zoom, so you can type in the “chat” area to make comments if you want👍

ok, thanks! I’ll make sure i have the latest zoom app on my computer.

Hi @cadgirl actually headphones work best for VOMs because if you are are speaking or playing and using speakers there is often echo & distortion. Common courtesy is to remain muted unless you are speaking. There is no problem if anyone wants to just hangout and listen. You may be asked to introduce yourself by the host just so folks get to know you.

We will be rooting you on, whether you decide to participate or not

I often typed messages instead of talking as did many others. I don’t think the lack of audio will be a problem.

Am definitely going to try to get to one depending on the timezones (I’m in the UK). I’d just love to listen in and hear how it goes. Well done on doing your first one @andy_e

Thanks, Moonhare! It seemed to be an international group of people attending, which was really cool. I was thinking this was was of the silver lining aspects of not doing in-person open mics.

@andy_e It was a pleasure listening and hearing you play Friday night! I had attended several Voms in the past just listening without my video or mic on. You gave me the courage to join in and talk briefly. Everyone is so encouraging. Although I dont know how to play a complete song the group is so encouraging I took the plung saturday night, strumming and playing some chord transitions….If I have any regrets its not finding the courage to join in 6 months ago…@Cadgirl I would encourage you to visit a Vom….. Im actually on cloud nine today..

MarkD66, really good to hear from you. I am glad to read of your VOM Saturday experience! I plan to attend this coming Friday’s VOM – I would like to play a Tom Petty song I am working on – I think I will do this even if it is in rough shape, partly to practice not feeling like I need to do “perfectly”. Good to be on the journey with you.
