Arkansas Traveller
Been pretty excited to learn and post this one. I’ve been working my way through the song vault as firstly I love the songs and Secondly i think by learning them it’s developing my skills learnt in the dailies. I’ve managed to learn all the ‘starter’ ones and have just stepped up to ‘beginner’ level with this one. When I started trying it I thought it was impossible and I’d never get it and then something magic happens and you start to string bits together (this is my favourite bit) then all of a sudden your getting through the whole song, then I start trying to video it with no mistakes (this is my least favourite bit as the self imposed pressure changes the game a bit, but also helps focus and attention to detail)
This song is really fun and I’ve had a lot of eureka moments with it particularly learning to play with a metronome as if reading, moving all your fingers on both hands isn’t enough trying to listen to a tick and land the beats on it in time makes for a super frazzled brain. I didn’t conclude the song very well because I think I was so excited to be at the end with only a few mistakes I nearly went round again 😅

Great job @flyguy. Your story about the ending made me smile since I’ve been there myself.

Cheers @mike I’m glad I didn’t go round again as that was a better than expected take that would sure to have gone wrong if I had. The dog is certainly a character usually steals the show but happy to take a back seat

Great job – very clean playing, and I like this one too. I’m still in the starter courses, and those are difficult enough in my opinion. Great job.

Thanks @wolfspirit95 nice nickname btw (just seen it trying to tag you, struggling atm with the new website but I’m sure I’ll get there) is this in reference to your dogs? Yep the ‘starter’ songs are pretty difficult but quite rewarding with perseverance. The lessons make it easier for me to learn. put a tab in front of me and I don’t know what to do (yet)

Great job @Flyguy Sounded clean. Nicely performed. I really liked your description of the mental steps of learning the song and then realizing when you record it that you need to learn it even better. But maybe that is the point of doing what you just did….by posting this you now improved beyond what you originally thought was a completed song.

Cheers David glad you enjoyed it. You never really start to get it till you string them together then all the little subtleties appear like the transitions or something that was easy in isolation becomes difficult when played as apart. I’m still nowhere near finishing this one but I wanted to post it because I was pretty chuffed with the noise I could make, Hope to get it a bit cleaner and faster.
