Bits & Pieces
Posted by Philb on March 2, 2022 at 4:37 pmHave you ever had an idea for a melody, or musical riff but didn’t know what to do with it after? I started several pieces over the last couple of years, which I think were original (though who knows if something was stuck in my head from some other piece); but never went back to build on them. The last one was just having fun with what I thought would be an introduction to a song. It is percussive heavy, so I recorded myself in different personas playing each percussion (and acoustic guitar), and put them together just for fun. These have been sitting for quite a while, so I thought I would dust them off and share.

Loved the different guitars (btw, beautiful resonator), but I absolutely loved the ending percussive aspect. Made me smile.

Awesome mix @Philb 👏😱👏 Love the slide work while picking single notes – something I’d like to do too🤩👍 And the percussive part really worked😎 The mix was full of awesome sauce🎉

OMG! @Bill_Brown great job. I watched it a couple of times. Love the ending when you really started to improvise!

Nice job @Philb looks like you had fun with that have ideas pop in my head for music all the time now that I started improv the challenge is bringing them to life you can think one thing but doing them not so much ha ha😀 but I keep on pickin hope your journey continues to be all you want

@Loraine Thank you for taking time to listen; and glad it made you smile. I no longer have two of those guitars, the resonator being one of them); but enjoyed it when I had it.
@Bill_Brown Thanks for the kind words. I’m not that good with the slide, but it is something I hope to get better at. The mix was fun.
@Cadgirl Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you much for taking time to listen.
@KevinZ Thank you! Yes, I have had many ideas that don’t translate to how they sound in my head. LOL

I really liked that resonator you were playing. I’m toying with the idea of getting one.

They are nice to play and get some unique sounds. I wasn’t playing it a lot, so for now have sold it and have since purchased a guitar I play more. I may get one again at some point. That one is a Rogue, which you can get for around $200. It is cheap compared to the ones I started looking at. In comparing sound, at my skill level, it didn’t sound much different, and wasn’t worth it for me to purchase a more expensive one; and the Rogue sounded good.
Here is a link to two (one like mine), that are recommended for someone looking for a budget model. http://www.cheapguitarguide.com/resonator-guitars.html

Philb-
LOVED it!
Watched it twice thru- and the “surprise ending” was really enjoyable– perfect!
The perfect example of “work’s done- have some fun”.
I wouldn’t be surprised if most if not all of us have that same thought about writing our own music when an idea and melody pop into our heads….
You have figured it out!
I am still quite a ways away……
More than you may think- this is a very inspirational post/video…..
Thanks for sharing it.
