  • Blackbird

Posted by Marisa on August 12, 2025 at 8:03 am

Hello TAC family! Workshopped Blackbird this weekend. First learned and posted it here 4 or 5 years ago. However, I needed to reinforce it onto my fingers, as it was gone. Used the G scale to bring it back to life. Couldn’t post both versions, but will try in separate post. I feel a more musical presentation now, and playing less as a “trained monkey” and more with some fretboard knowledge.

Well done, sounding good! Also, nice setting, playing it outside. Fits well.

Yes, the birds in the background added something! Thanks for listening Phil!

Just wow! That has to be one of the most difficult songs ever written to sing while playing. You do both so well, it’s a delight to watch!

I’ve also been working on Blackbird. But the actual way that Paul McCartney played it. He never learned Travis picking, and only used is thumb and index finger, and he kind of “flicks” the strings with his index finger. I learned this song before, not the McCartney way, and it’s been pretty challenging changing lanes and trying to play like the original. I saw an interview with him, and he kind of showed how he does it “wrong” and jokes about it. It sound pretty right to me.

Start with the G scale I posted… it will get those fingers moving!

Awesome Marisa! I consider myself a beginner at playing guitar. I can play easy open chords and campfire songs. I joined TAC today because I wanted to learn more. If I can learn here to finger pick and move up and down the fretboard like you I’ll be over the moon! Thanks for the inspiration!

I was in the same boat 5 years ago when I joined TAC. Learn to read tabs and get that finger picking going. Landslide is a great song for that, but really, taking any chord and finger-picking gets you there. Check out my g chord post and you will know what I mean. Welcome aboard!

Nice job. Great tune. I myself was working on it again last night on the front porch for about the 1000th time (:

I can’t really sing along like you as I a concentrating too much on the playing (:

That was so good!! I’m hoping my finger picking can get there like yours. And those chord changes were so fast. Very Nice.

I like the standing up playing too. I need to try that.

@Marisa is a performer @DanTheMan . But that does raise the question, when should one begin to play standing if the goal is to be able to play while standing? Maybe we should do part of our daily routine while standing as beginners. I don’t know the answer.

I started standing from Day 1… I liked the feel. I prefer to play that way. @DanTheMan

@petelanger thanks for calling me a performer! I’ll take that compliment with gratis!

Wonderful! One of my favorite songs beautifully rendered. The trifecta, sweet song, sweet playing, and sweet voice.
