  • Day 72 of The 100 Day Project

Posted by Michelle-PSL on April 12, 2021 at 6:00 pm

I made a mistake with the “day” in the video – recorded yesterday for today – Day 72.

This song is called Butterfly – written Barry Gibb (formerly of the Bee Gees) and was covered by Gillian Welch & David Rawlings. Was watching a documentary of the Bee Gees on HBO and heard this song in the closing credits. Never heard it before and really liked it. Tracked down the lyrics and chord sheet, and learned it. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for watching!

I was reading your post and was ready to eject at “Barry Gibbs” and “Bee Gees” but my eyeball momentum carried me forward to “Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings” so I had to listen. And turned out to be a very nice song. Thanks @Michelle-PSL nudging me outside my normal musical boundaries.

I’m so glad you listened @Mike56 ! I’m telling you, this is a song I’d never expect from a Bee Gee member – I had to track it down after hearing it in the closing credits. And of course the cover is so much better than my rendition. I’m not certain if the new rules allow me to post the link here…but it’s on you tube if you want to take a listen, Might have to find out what else Barry Gibb’s been writing…

Already looked up the Gillian Welch version in Apple Music. Part of a whole album of Bee Bees song done with country stars. Jive Talking with Miranda Lambert, How Deep Is Your Love with Tommy Emmanuel, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart with Sheryl Crow! I really enjoy unusual mixes like this. Album is called Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook Volume 1.

I thought “No Way this can be the Bee Gees” when I heard it too…

Nice song and nice performance @Michelle-PSL

Thank you, @Alfred ! To be honest, it’s just Barry Gibb – in his more recent songwriter phase.

I’m behind times – haven’t been on the forums much, so my apologies @Michelle-PSL . New song for me too. Very nicely played and sung.

Well, I don’t care much for the Bee Gees, but I do like Gillian Welch. You did an excellent rendition of this! Good job! Your progress has been amazing through this Project! Keep it up, PLEASE!

    🙂

Thank you for your kind words! Not much of a Bee Gees fan either @Lance-Hankins. What is interesting is that this song was written by Barry Gibb post-Bee Gees. Found out that he is doing songwriting in a number of different genres…
