Guitar Christmas Songs- A relief and a win
TAC got me going after 55 plus years of poor effort. The VOM’s have kept sanity, and connected my friends (most of who I will someday meet). And Christmas Songs are so ingrained into my memories that even surgery and the pain control after couldn’t drive them out.
I think my earliest memories of singing or playing music are the carols from Church and the choir and orchestra concerts celebrating this Season. In Colorado in the 50’s it was only politically correct in our community to call this time of year “Christmas.” I was 12 before i saw a card come to my family addressed “Happy Holidays.”
I digress. When one goes through a trauma like my knee surgery on Thursday, one tends to fall back on base memories, and I found that many songs I have been working with for the last month are just not “there” at the moment. Christmas, that’s different.
A classic carol that never had to be explained to a kid in Golden, Colorado in 1956:
I hope you enjoy. Playing, last night, and actually remembering how to do it was a huge win, for me.
