Loving my TAC journey so far. Like many of you, I’m re-engaging after many years away from my guitar. I find Tony’s description of scales, keys, and use of the full fretboard much more interesting now than I did back in the day. I believe that is where a lot of my enjoyment going forward will be.

Does anyone know of a good book that explains all of these things that is not a “How To” book? TAC will bring me along on the How To part, but I think having a bigger picture of how and why the pieces go together (or don’t) will help me. Thanks, in advance!

Try No Bull Music Theory for Guitarists by James Shipway. It’s a thorough, easy to read intro.

And the nice thing is you can find many of his lessons on YouTube!

Hi @SciencePete , Tony recommended “Edly’s Musical Theory For Practical People” by Ed Rosemann. Great overview easy to understand. If you don’t mind a used copy 5.00 is about right…dunno though with inflation being what it is maybe 7.00? This would not be my only one but it would be my choice for first one.

Thanks @MoochasPoochas and @jumpinjeff. I could always use a book on Music Theory. I am understanding Music Theory a little better but seeing it presented by someone else sometimes makes a world of difference.

@SciencePete Welcome to the TAC community! As for theory, there I recommend Fretboard Wizard, and I like Music Theory for Dummies myself.

I am thinking that one written specifically for the guitar will serve you the best. Guitar Fretboard Workbook, 2nd edition, by Barrett Tagliarino is available on Amazon. There are exercises with an answer key that focus on the individual content of the chapters. Amazon has a preview feature that will give you access to the 1st few chapters.

It goes beyond the TAC Fretboard course.
