Jack Skellington Ruins Christmas
Posted by Moonhare on October 12, 2021 at 2:56 amLast month Tony taught us a little riff called Jack Skellington. I REALLY enjoyed playing this one and it started to morph into a longer riff and then I started to think this could be a nice thing to post on TAC. So in the film Nightmare Before Christmas, after Jack Skellington tries to make a wonderful Christmas for all the kids it all goes horribly wrong and sad and dejected he wanders around, not knowing what to do with himself. This is how he was feeling at the time! ENJOY!!

Your playing and production and creativity are just inspiring! Thank you for sharing. 🙌🏼🌟😊

Thanks Marissa – I’m really enjoying the Tuesday licks and it sends you off down a real rabbit hole of possibility.

Awesome video @Moonhare 😱🤩😱 I see the real (guitar playing) musician(s) in you are starting to come out👍🎸👍 That was excellent playing by all 7 of you (lol)👏👏👏 A great collaboration with yourself for sure😎 Just keep ’em coming!

Haha. Yes my cloning lab was working overtime this weekend. Not so sure about the bass player though. He may be asked to leave due to his timing deficiencies!

Thanks. Must admit I’ve never tried layering videos like this before so wasn’t sure if it would work but was really pleased when I played it back.

Well dang. That is just pure fun. Thanks for composing that little piece with multiplicity and cloning yourself to put a smile on a sad situation. Poor Jack.

Thanks a bunch. One day I’ll clone someone who can go to work while I play guitar at home!

I love this! It’s cool to see how creative you can get with just a short riff once you have some experience. Nice video!

Hey that’s so nice of you to say. I have played along to something on screen before but never tried multiple takes to stitch together and aprt from my timing going a little bit in the middle I was really pleased how it sounded when all the extra guitars came in. Might try some more.

Very creative video Moonhare! Awesome what you’ve done with a little riff. I really enjoyed watching! 🙂 👍

Thanks a bunch. This was an experiment and I’m pleased with how it came out. Might try to do another but use a metronome to get my timing straight!

It sounded great! Very creative! Inspiring to see what someone can do.

Hey thanks so much. I was playing the riff out and thought it would sound nice with chords to fill it out then I got carried away! But that’s what happens with TAC. You sit down for 10 minutes then your wife comes in and says that 2 hours is enough for one evening!

Don’t know how you put that together, but I loved it! Perhaps one day I’ll be able to pick like that. Great job!

Hi there and thanks for that. As to how I did it I played along with the original lead line (with headphones on) a bunch of times and recorded each one on my camera then in the video software I had to line them all up. That is what took the time! Took longer to get the guitars to match up than to actually play it. But it was a good learning exercise. Next time I’ll do a count in!

Wow @Moonhare , that was really amazing. So when I saw this I had to remember what Tony said about not comparing myself to my guitar heroes, but taking inspiration from them. So yeah, I choose to be inspired and try something like this on my own. I actually know how to do all the individual steps and have the software necessary.
But then, imagine my surprise as I read the thread, to realize you had never put together a multi-layered video. You have really done an amazing job with you first attempt at a layered production. But then to find out, you didn’t use a clap or something to sync your different takes? And it still turned out this well? That’s some serious persistence. Another thing I can take inspiration from.
Oh, but let me not forget the first thing that hit me between the eyes. Your finger work on the guitar was so fluid it showed how much you have noodled on this little riff. I know how new you are to guitar, so again, I have to take inspiration in stead of comparing myself.
Ok, that’s a lot of inspiration from one little video. Thanks for posting.

Thanks @MikeGaurnier for taking the time out to comment. You always put a lot of thought into your comments and they really help those of us who are not a long way through the journey yet. Finger picking is probably the thing I find easiest. I had never really used a flatpick until I joined TAC so that is where I am focussing my attention but on those occasions when we get invited to finger pick, I think yes – why not. I really enjoy it. Now back to the barre chords to learn a bit of humility!

Thanks. it was really nice to learn one of the riffs (I don’t always manage them) and develop it a little further.
