Life’s a beach
Posted by Guitargeezer-Jack on July 16, 2021 at 8:24 amHeading out today for a week on North Carolina’s Outer Banks (Nags Head) with my guitar in tow for jamming with my son-in-law and daughter by the ocean. Plan to check in daily to TAC for the daily challenges. 🎼🏖

Wow, @Guitargeezer , road trip, guitar trip, #famjam trip. No better way, and going to keep on TACing. Huge wins.
-
Sounds like fun @Guitargeezer We will do the Outer Banks next year. Couldn’t get a booking this year.

Even though I’m from NC it has been 25 years since being at the OXB. Enjoy your future trip Marty69!

What a great family opportunity to include music into the memories! No matter what generation each is, when it comes to playing music, there’s only one generation.

Agree completely with you Ursula! Packed more guitars than beach towels! Even the 6 year old grandson has his Baby Martin. My wife is the only non-guitarist but she is blessed with the vocal abilities beyond the rest of us so keeps this ageless band of beach bums on pitch

Hello @Alisa, Mornings on the sand and in the surf with evenings on the porch playing guitars with family members. They are supportive and patient with me as I try to keep up with them! Tonight’s featuring cheeseburgers on the grill so will just have to pay tribute to Jimmy Buffet by jamming the CIP tune together.🌅⛱🍔😎⚓️

It ended up being an amazing week for sure. My son in law was very kind and encouraging about my very novice level playing. He helped me understand how to get a much better sound out of fingerpicking a number of songs I had been strumming. Started Tony’s Fingerpicking Jumpstart today to work toward improving. Play On @Alisa!

you should post a short video then of you fingerpicking, share the wisdom 🙂

Thanks for the encouragement @Alisa. I will use fingerpicking when I soon post my first “Play for Us” video.

It’s been a year since I played guitar with sand under foot. This time enjoying a stay at Holden Beach, NC.
Believe it is a good time to reflect on my guitar journey. I am playing with more confidence, especially when doing so with my son-in-law.
This year I have my Taylor 414 ce-R with me. It plays well against my son-in-law’s Martin. We’ve enjoyed swapping off guitars during our evenings in the ocean breeze.
Been keeping up with the TAC daily challenges – very appropriate theme this week of barbecuing – which has been part of our daily routine. Although this evening we will be having “Frogmore” (no frogs but plenty of boiled fresh shrimp!
Enjoying my family and the beach lifestyle as I wear my “Be nice and play guitar” shirt.

Have guitar, will travel. Always good to hear from you Mike!

I’m sure glad we have notifications back, Jack @Guitargeezer-Jack . Yeah, I feel a special closeness to you since we have met in real life. It makes a huge difference. I would like to make it down there again sometime. I know we talked about July, but I think we need to wait till later in the season. Maybe late summer/early fall. Like September?
MG 😀

Sounds good Mike. LKN is more pleasant in September-November as it much less busy.
-
Oh, you just said the magic words, Jack @Guitargeezer-Jack , less busy. It’s also more pleasant as far as the weather goes. I’m not a fan of hot.

Wow that sounds like a fantastic trip!
I’ve been following this thread since the start— thanks for sharing the stories!
As for me– I got the chance to go out there about 15 years ago now- (oldest daughter, her husband, and 2 oldest G-daughters were in the Navy- stationed at Norfolk).
I remember it being actually quite a bit like up here along the mid-Washington coast- (only warmer, and no hills in the background), but along the immediate beach and dunes areas- quite similar- (versus, say, steep, rugged, rocky coastline- like most of Oregon and much of Northern Calif.).
It was beautiful there indeed! I’ll go back someday.
Again- thanks for sharing the enjoyment of getting to play guitar with family!
