Loraine – Iris, Goo Goo Dolls
Posted by Loraine on March 29, 2022 at 4:45 amPlayed a SNL VOM kasrpt week.
This is in original tuning used by band — (from low E) B, D, D, D, D, D. I Have tendinitis and tennis elbow and was looking for alternative tunings that wouldn’t add a lot of stress to my fretting arm. I was too tense in playing and I couldn’t get my strumming smooth, and I realized I played way to slowly – all things to work on.

So sweet @Loraine 🤩👏👏 Great rendition👍👍 I think your timing was smooth😎 and even though you felt tension😱, you performed cool as a cucumber🥒

Thank you so much for your kind words @Cadgirl and @Bill_Brown . This is one of favorite songs by the Goo Goo Dolls. And the timing when I play with the recording is a little off. Should be slightly faster. I thought I had the strumming worked out, but I was so tense in the shoulder and arm/wrist area, and it really affected my strumming. Oh well, can only get better (I hope). And Bill, I’m a great believer in fake it till you make it when it comes to nerves. I’d make a great actress in that regards.

Loraine, wonderful singing and playing. You had a good sense of the rhythm with your playing and singing, which got even better when the nerves calmed. Using the open tunings I thing is great strategy to lessen the stress and they sound so beautiful. Congratulations and you inspire!

You have battled through so much it is brilliant that you can get a song like this off. Interesting tuning too – never come across that before. Keep on going and posting.

Nice performance @Loraine ! I thought your strumming was consistent & kudos for tackling the very different tuning! Good to hear you singing as well! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thanks @Christopher_H On rare occasions I’m able to figure out vocals with the strumming or tune. Doesn’t happen often, but this would have been a pretty boring performance without them. It was a fun tuning. I feel like I have to have a dedicated guitar just for it, As for strumming, I’m getting better, but when I do struggle aim glaringly aware of it. I’m sure I’m just being too hard on myself. Really appreciate you listening and your words of encouragement.

Thank you so much @digenu7 ! I was brand new to guitar when I started, and I’m amazed that I can play guitar (or at least a semblance of playing).

Singing AND playing! That’s a lot more challenging than just playing, Lorraine. Great job!
