My 3rd TACiversary
It’s hard to believe that two days ago I celebrated my 3rd TACiversary.
I joined in April of 2018 for something to allow me to get back into playing guitar. I looked at myself as a 30 year beginner (Still do). I missed the joy I got from playing with others. You see I used to play on a regular basis early week with my older brother and some friends. My brother was the lead player and another friend played the majority of the licks. I was the rhythm player. This was just fine then and I enjoyed it. Time went by and I moved away and guitar basically stopped. I’d pick it up once in a while but not too often.
I began to look for a way to be able to get into guitar again. I found Tony’s 5 day challenge and I got hooked. I wanted to know more about guitar then just playing the every day open chords ( don’t get me wrong, I knew a ton of songs using these) but I needed to be able to do things I couldn’t… Barre chords!! If a song had barre chords in them, I would dismiss it as being too hard and not try it. I also wanted to learn more about the guitar itself ie. The notes and how I might be able to do some of the lead stuff my brother did… I had no clue. That’s when I joined Fret board wizard in year two. This has helped me understand a great deal more then I ever did before. It was then that I thought, I might as well stay around and I got a life membership.
TAC through the Jam clubs brought me back to that which I was looking for and wanting so much. A group of people to play guitar with and have fun… no pre-conceptions just have fun doing that which to me is an outlet when things go off the rails and if you want to call it a refuge when I need time to myself. The community here is what has really kept me here. They are so supportive you can’t really do wrong. When Covid hit and the Friday night open mic’s started it was a great event. I look forward to Friday nights even if to just listen others.
My goal for the next year coming is to challenge myself a bit more. I would always give up if what I was trying to learn seemed too hard and I didn’t get it right away. I have found that if I keep at it (like the barre chords) it will eventually come. I also want to dig deeper into the fret board wizard and scales.
