New weekly jam
Took the night off last night and took both kids out to my Dad’s to have a jam.
This is significant because two things happened. The first is that we set up a weekly jam for Sunday nights at my Dad’s with the kids.
The second was that we actually got something going on with my Daughter, who doesn’t like to play with others, generally.
I set down the rhythm, and held it, while my Dad caught up, and my daughter slowed down, and next thing you know it was music instead of a jangly mess. From there Dad played some lead(ish) riffs while Dani strummed a rhythm, and I switched into a Travis pick. Lyle did his best one chord strum at a time to play along. We all had a great time, and it sounded fantastic.
Mostly I am happy to have Dani wanting to play with others, and Lyle playing for more than 10 minutes, and feeling like he was playing rather than practicing.
We settled on 3 songs for the next session.
“Obla-di-Obla-Da” – Beatles
“Octopus’ Garden” – Beatles (I am assigned uke for this one)
“If you Could Read My Mind” – Gordon LightfootThere are a couple things that my Dad and I are working on separately as well, because they are not in the Kids’ skillset yet, and just a bit of a stretch for me.
Anyway, It is a super win to be able to play with the old man and the kids.
Later in the evening, we had uke lessons for younger kids. My niece was there with her 7 (yes 7) kids, and 3 of them wanted to learn ukulele. what a glorious noise that was! 2 of them have C Am and F down, and one got C Am F G and G7 down.
