  • New weekly jam

Posted by Alfred on March 25, 2021 at 1:48 pm

Took the night off last night and took both kids out to my Dad’s to have a jam.

This is significant because two things happened. The first is that we set up a weekly jam for Sunday nights at my Dad’s with the kids.

The second was that we actually got something going on with my Daughter, who doesn’t like to play with others, generally.

I set down the rhythm, and held it, while my Dad caught up, and my daughter slowed down, and next thing you know it was music instead of a jangly mess. From there Dad played some lead(ish) riffs while Dani strummed a rhythm, and I switched into a Travis pick. Lyle did his best one chord strum at a time to play along. We all had a great time, and it sounded fantastic.

Mostly I am happy to have Dani wanting to play with others, and Lyle playing for more than 10 minutes, and feeling like he was playing rather than practicing.

We settled on 3 songs for the next session.
    “Obla-di-Obla-Da” – Beatles
“Octopus’ Garden” – Beatles (I am assigned uke for this one)
“If you Could Read My Mind” – Gordon Lightfoot

There are a couple things that my Dad and I are working on separately as well, because they are not in the Kids’ skillset yet, and just a bit of a stretch for me.

Anyway, It is a super win to be able to play with the old man and the kids.

Later in the evening, we had uke lessons for younger kids. My niece was there with her 7 (yes 7) kids, and 3 of them wanted to learn ukulele. what a glorious noise that was! 2 of them have C Am and F down, and one got C Am F G and G7 down.

I’m envious of the time with your dad and kids and having fun playing together, especially during the kid’s younger years. Very awesome win Alfred.

LOL – Yeah, nah, tried that. Gave him a uke and told him to hold down one string and strum and I sang while he played (geez – forget the song now). Well it held his attention for about 15 seconds. 😢

How very awesome @Alfred . And how cool is that, you snagged Alfred, just Alfred. I tried that with Mike but I was too late. Someone else got it. His name is Mike. 🤣

Ok, it’s not that funny, but hey…

So back to your fam jam. That’s just a truly wonderful thing. I’m happy for you and your kids. And your dad. And your niece and her kids. That’s a good size band you got going on there. 😁

It wasn’t hard to snag my name. No one else has named thier kid Alfred since 1889, and besides, I didn’t have to do anything to get it but miss a day of the 10 minute challenge (and as expected I was too much of a task master to myself that day… Strange how I rely on Tony’s dailys to not go overboard)

Anyway thanks for the cheer on the win!

Alfred, That is awesome!!! a HUGE win, especially with the kids and your dad. So happy for you! PS we still need to talk about blending the 2 versions of “All Those Years.” I’m trying to figure how to convert a youtube video to MP4. OR better yet, did you save your recording as an MP4 before uploading to youtube? No pressure…

I haven’t looked at it in a couple of days. I have been a little under the weather. I will try today and then I will find out if the PM system is working.

@marquita, I think it takes a converter, but if you get it in .mp4, you can export that to audio only, that will give you an .m4a file.

I did it to get the backing track i played with last week (but had the file on my computer, not in YouTube directly.
