You know @Marisa , I don’t think they do the Open Mics anymore. It seems like they stopped having them with the last update to the website.

@Marisa , Around the time of the ‘big update’ a lot of stuff was taken away. One was the Open Mics. A couple of the members started their own site called http://www.justmusicgeeks.com .You’ll find a lot of the old members are there. And they do have Open Mics. Just look around and see what you think. I hope this helps you out.

The open mics were only associated with TAC in that we were all TAC members and the schedule was posted on TAC. The open mics never stopped, and we are still mostly TAC members but the schedule is now posted on justmusicgeeks.com as you said Denise.
We’d love to have you Marisa or Denise anytime you want to log in to a Zoom Virtual Open Mic. We do have people who log in and don’t turn on their camera or microphone. They just come to listen “anonymously”. It couldn’t hurt just to drop in and give a listen.

you know @MikeGaurnier I really do have to go back and start exploring the justmusicgeeks. Thanks for the little push 🙂

You are very welcome, Denise @Cadgirl . We all need encouragement. And our journey and improvement takes what it takes. Some people go faster on the journey than others, but I don’t think anyone would claim to have learned guitar quickly and easily.
And then there is sing and playing at the same time. Then there is posting videos, which takes some knowledge of techy things. Then there is playing in front of others. Then there is coming to an Open Mic, in real life. Or an Open Mic through Zoom, thus the “Virtual”. All of this takes more knowledge and more confidence. It takes time to gain both. But I will say that most people who come to the VOMs, especially people who are new to gutiar, end up feeling like they should have come earlier. It is such a positive and “safe” experience. And it really gives inspiration, motivation and improvement in large doses.

I wont be able to explore ‘justmusicgeeks’ today, but I will tomorrow. I’ll check out the VOM and find that calendar of ‘play’ days. Thanks again

When you go over to JMG, on the main Forums page, the fourth group down the page is called “Virtual Open Mic Nights”. Then, it has a separate folder for each open mic. You can also see the links on the calendar.

Thanks @MikeGaurnier ,Found it. I also found the calendar. Just downloaded zoom. I have used it before, but it’s been awhile ago. I’ll load it up and play around with it for awhile. My computer doesn’t have sound (I never needed it for CAD work). I have to use head phones with it. Hmmmm….. in fact I just opened up the browser and I’m informed I don’t have a camera or microphone. I know I have used zoom on my IPhone, when I decide to play I can use that. In the meantime, I am pretty sure I could view the VOM, you just won’t be able to see me.

That is correct, Denise @Cadgirl . So, you design automobiles, eh? That’s interesting. Of course, it’s probably not interesting to you since you’ve done it for 20 years. I wish I had learned CAD when I went back to school in 2000. Instead, I just messed around with art programs leading to a degree that was useless for a person of my age.
Anyway, yes, the phone can work and others have done it. But, you can spend $20 bucks for a webcam and have both a camera and microphone. But be careful, it’s a deep rabbit hole that you could fall into. 🤣 (When you come to your first VOM you will understand what I mean.)

@MikeGaurnier , I have worked all over the car. It’s very interesting. The last job I had was for headlights. You wouldn’t imagine all the stuff they get into them. If you like art, you would have loved design. But, I am taking on-line classes in art right now. Color Pencil Art.
Looking forward to joining a VOM. When I do I’ll post that I went.

@Marisa & @Cadgirl If you’re on the East Coast, give the Scones VOM a visit out of the UK. It is also on the schedule on thehttp://www.justmusicgeeks.com web page. We just met on June 9th and they are scheduled every other Thurs. @ 2:30 ET. No stress, just fun! You can play or just watch and listen. 😊🧙♂️😎

@Marty69, looking forward to taking a look at the VOMs. I’m sure they are very interesting. 🙂

Marty @Marty69 , you’d be welcome at a Sunday VwA. Very similar to the Scones. 2pm EST on Sunday, smaller crowd than Friday and Saturday and very welcoming.
