about 50 years ago i used to try to fingerpick back in the folk song era. then i quit for LONG time. now at age 78 (april 20th) im getting back into it. I started the thirty days to play and am actually trying to use a pick. also in the meanwhile im going through tonys fingerpicking routines. hopeing to run into some more older folks like me and continue my journey. tony and the group are VERY inspiring!

Congratulations on picking up that pick for the first time! 👏 Welcome to the TAC family Mrfredsporty. I hope you enjoy your guitar journey here. Happy Pre-Birthday! 😎 I’m considered a senior now, so I’m one of the old timers.

Welcome to the TAC community @Mrfredsporty ! Sounds like you’re enjoying your journey. A pick can be your friend. Just remember not to use a vise grip and keep your wrist loose. It’ll become 2nd nature soon.

@Mrfredsporty , welcome to TAC. I never used a pick till joining TAC. I still like to finger pick, but I have found a pick is really nice to have. I have learned to actually strum a song which I never thought I would be able to do without it twanging super loud. You’ll get the hang of it. Just give it a little time.

Thanks to everyone for their nice replies. One of the great things about Tony’s site is the huge belief in positive reinforcement. It’s like having a personal lesson but much cheaper.
