Playing with a Group
Posted by asomeck on May 29, 2021 at 12:18 pmHELLO TAC Community…I’ve been a member for a year and have gotten so much from the daily practice and sticking to it. Along the way I’ve written some songs and sparked creativity. For the first time I would like to experience playing with others. Live would be great (I live in Long Island, NY) or virtually. I’d like some suggestions on how to begin…to find a group…Thnx

TAC did away with the Jam Club feature, but have you considered participating in any of the virtual open mics (VOM’s)? They occur every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and every other Thursday. Those are a great way to play in front of groups of people. As for local jam clubs, you can try search the members link for your town or surrounding towns for other locals. You could then reach out to them to try and form a group. Another option is to search on Google for local Jam Clubs (possibly through a Meetup of something). Good luck with it!

Great point @Bill_Brown . Here’s the link to the old site. If you click on Jam Clubs at the top, then you should be able to see if there’s a local jam club in the area and to reach out to them to inquire into local jams. https://tac.tonypolecastro.com/

I second what @Bill_Brown said check out the old site and see if one of the jam clubs in your area are still active. The Windy City Half n’ Whole notes in chicago are. We are moving on with out TAC. Our first jam since the fall of the old TAC is this coming Saturday.

Hi @Larry-Mc , great to hear that your Jam Club is still active😀 Really feel bad that the Clubs are no longer supported by TAC – such a shame 🙁 I was hoping that through TAC, I could find people in my area to start a Club, but appears that it’s not in the cards, at least in my area 🤔 Best wishes for you guys👍

I’m super disappointed that TAC no longer supports jam clubs. It was one of the highlights of being a TAC member, getting to know folks and building my confidence playing with others. It’s a shame since Tony talks about how much being part of a group helps, and then for some reason decides to stop supporting the clubs. We’ve moved to Mass. and I can’t find a link to any jam clubs in the northeast. I never understood why TAC would get rid of such a rich resource.

There’s lots of things that are now gone from TAC. That’s just the facts and we can’t look back as decisions were made. Try placing (or looking for) an ad on your local craigslist. I’ve also connected to people through meetup groups as well. Good luck, keep searching, the right people will find you and you them.
