  • Quick Draw Exercises — 5 sec, 3 sec, 1 sec

Posted by OhWowMan on November 2, 2021 at 1:48 am

In the 30 Days to Play Challenge, Week 2 “Building Your Chord Library”: Tony talks about learning the G, C, and D chords by using the “Quick Draw” method. For each one, he mentions having a loop of a five second countdown, followed by a three second countdown, and finally a one second countdown. But, I am not finding anything like that for any chord. I’m only getting a 5 second countdown for each. Am I missing something? How do I navigate to the 3-sec loop, or the 1-sec loop?

Hi @OhWowMan , In March of this year, TAC changed formats. One of the things that got removed with the new format were the 3 separate “play” videos, each with an increased speed (I assume to conserve server space), and have been replaced by the single “play” video with the ability to change speeds by mousing over the 1x icon and selecting a different speed. So that’s the history, and why now there is only 1 “play” video. The best thing I can recommend for the “Quick Draw” exercises is to wait with your hand on your knee until the count reaches 3 or 1 and then fret the chord. You can try changing the speed of the video from 1x to 1.5x for the 3 count and then to 2x for the 1 count, but mathematically, I don’t think it works out that way. So I would just wait for the count to reach the number that your working with, with the video at 1x speed.

    Good luck and have fun🎸

I hope that you are having fun and making progress @OhWowMan . I can add nothing to @Bill_Brown ‘s explanation. It is a little confusing, but the extra videos was redundant and didn’t really add anything. Let us know how you are progressing with your chord transitions and be sure to post all you small wins, that way we can be a part of your guitar journey and share your joy.

    Hi Oh, Welcome to TAC

I ran into the same issue when I went to redo the 30 day challenge a couple weeks ago. The first time i ran through this last November December, they had the different levels on video, with the three different levels it was extra motivational to get the 1 second done. Some changes are not for the better, I guess. By the way I’m from Ketchikan, its nice to see another TAC person from Alaska.
