  • rotator cuff soreness

Posted by Dirk_R on November 18, 2021 at 6:35 pm

I have a full tear in my right rotator cuff, it did not bother me much till I started playing the guitar several hours a day. Now it hurts all the time after and during playing. Any advise?

@Dirk_R See a doc and keep your supraspinatus muscle loose.

If you have a full tear, then you should probably back off playing as much as you are until you rehab or have surgery. Have you discussed it with your doctor or physical therapist? You could actually cause more damage to it. Rotator cuff tears are quite literally no laughing matter.

Picking hand shoulder problems is why I went from a dreadnought to a 000 body style guitar. I know you just got that D 10 Jr @Dirk_R so if it’s that picking hand side that your having pain with, then you need to cut back on playing time and either way, see a Doc – don’t full around and procrastinate – just do it!

Bill, So do you think the dreadnought jr would add to the problem

I have been seeing an orthopedic Dr for several years and I had two 6 week sessions in 2021 with a physical therapist. I will call the Doc again today and get in for another evaluation. I tore the cuff about 12 years ago playing basketball. Have seen the pt about every two years and pain usually goes away, however since I have been playing the guitar for long periods of time it appears to not tolerate that repetitive action. But the more I play the more I want to play.
