  • Series of small wins this week.

Gotta say that I’m glad that I started the bluegrass banjo techniques course the last week of April and worked it through May. It really helped me be ready for this past week, especially since I already purchased the finger picks. This was purely by chance that I did it. I did find every lesson this week pretty challenging but I’m counting the wins, things I didn’t know anything at all about before: 1) I have a feel for finger picks 2) I know how to form some chords in open-G 3) I know a scale in open G that allows me to find form a few simple melodies. I probably won’t play banjo ever but this stuff will help if I want to play slide or learn songs with open tunings. Also having to do something on the guitar where I felt like an absolute beginner again was a really good experience.

Still getting the basics down and didn’t want to be constantly retuning my guitar but these banjo licks look really interesting. It’s great to have something a little different in your arsenal so well done on getting stuck into it. Perhaps when I get a second guitar…🤔

@Moonhare , reach around that brick chimney and grab the other dusty guitar hanging up back there.

☺ Well observed @jumpinjeff ! Unfortunately that one is a 12 string and like playing with razor wire! However I have something on its way from my local guitar store in time for my 50 days of TAC…

👍 I missed the 12 string detail. Amazing to me how powerful the imagery was with the dust on that guitar. I probably won’t forget that anytime soon.

I hear you. I kinda stopped doing anything that wasn’t in open G this past week because I didn’t want to re-tune. The five exercises were plenty to keep me busy anyway. They were all hard.

Those are some great wins @markvguitar . I found this week to be very challenging, and I haven’t gotten the hang of fingerpicks. They feel awkward and uncomfortable on my hands. I can use a thumbpick, albeit not well, but the fingers are outta the question. Great job on your wins!!

I’m still adjusting to the finger picks as well. Kind of like running with ankle weights on.

For me @markvguitar , those finger picks are like me being Edward Scissorhands trying to play guitar😱 – not working out well😲 So I’m in the same boat as @Loraine at this point in my guitar 🎸journey – OK with the thumb pick, but…..🤔

The fingerpicks are really hard to get used too. Muddling through though.
